I recently joined a FB group called "Pro Audio Buy/Sell/Trade". FYSA, there are frequently ad's for some really cool technical furniture that would be great for the shack. My operating position is a J shape that's 160" on the short leg, 60" on the center and 188" on the long leg. If I was to acquire a set of full height datacenter racks plus desktops, inserts, cabling retainers and everything else I'd need to rack mount the entire shack I'd easily be into that kind of scratch. But I don't have the luxury of a corporate credit card for personal use, unlike my day job. |

Bear in mind the average ham rig or peripheral is a foot or more deep. Now allow several inches behind the stuff for proper cooling and cable management. In the just the woodworking and support structures for my setup I have probably $6k. If I could have found used rack cabinets which were matching and met my needs I definitely would have gone that route, but no such luck. |
