Started out this stand with a 300 lb. black bear wanting to occupy the same cornfield I was calling. I convinced him with my epack of coyotes that he didn't need to have a useless run in with them so he moved on to the next field. Shortly afterward I had a young female coyote coming in hot. I killed her at about 75 yds. |

Thats fricken cool!!!! If you don't mind, what make/model is that scope? I've always wanted a Thermal. We have a decent spread of a back yard, bordered by a HUGE pasture, bordered by a large wood line, then an pretty steep uphill forest, with nothing in any kinda range, directly behind my property. I can tell there are critters out there, aside from Cow and deer. When I used to shine a spot light back and fourth across the field, I'd often see many sets of eyes of various colors. I always thought it was funny, here you'd see 6-8 Yellow eyes, then 50 yards one side or another, you'd see a few reds, a bit away, some whites, a bit further some greens. I'd love to have something that you could identify a small dog or cat at 300-500 yards. Way outta my price though. Probably always will be. I'd rather it be a rifle scope, so I could hunt, but I'd even take Binos or a Monocular, if the range/res was really good. Also, How far is it to the roadway past the field? Looks like a good distance, but even so, I still could recognize a moving vehicle way out there. |

The scope is a Mars Oneleaf mt1000LRF. It is a 640 core with 12um and under 20mk. This scope can be purchased with a 35mm, or 50mm, or even 75mm Objective lens. As far as I know it is the only thermal currently made that can swap objective lenses. It has a laser range finder and a ballistic calculator. It runs on one 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery. I actually purchased it as a backup to my other thermal, but I've liked it so well that I've just been using it. It also has sound recording with video recording. The highway is over a half mile and the deer on the opposite side are about 1,000 yds. Correction on the above distance statement: The deer were about 700 yds. and on my side of the highway rather than 1,000 yds. |

| Thanks for the comments guys. On the bears, most of the really big bears 400 and over don't seem to be very aggressive. The younger boars around 250 lbs. seem to be more aggressive and of course sow bears with cubs are dangerous if you get between her and the cubs. For the most part bears won't bother you, but I have had one or two occasions where I had to put a warning shot toward them to warn them off. |
| All the black bears I've been around never wanted anything to do with me and scattered upon almost any loud noise or movement. I only came across a Brown Bear once and I always describe it as indifferent to my presence (and there was a dozen of us). |

| I have found that to be true in most cases. i generally stay away from fawn distress sounds as I've seen that cause them to start toward the call. Most of the time, a sound that has several coyotes going off will discourage them as they don't want an unnecessary encounter. I have a sound with baying hounds that is a last resort before the warning shot along with a green laser that I have on my rifle which usually turns them in another direction. We did have one occasion where I played a series of lone coyote howls and a bear started toward the sound at a pretty fast clip. My partner had to retreat to the truck and radio me that a bear was coming. A warning shot in the air turned him away. We saw a single picked cornfield that bordered a large pocosin with 21 bears in it at one time at night. We still managed to take a coyote in that field. |
Yeah your encounters are totally different because of what you're doing with the calls and such. The majority of my encounters were in my yard and neighborhood
