I bought an '85 Johnson Seahorse 6hp as a little upgrade for my old 14' Jon boat.

Had it out last weekend on a camping/fishing trip on the lake. It ran great and will push my boat to 15 mph which is plenty fast enough for me.

After getting home I noticed the skeg was bent.

I had beached the boat on an island, when I went to shove off the motor snagged something.  I got free and went about enjoying my weekend with my kid and some old friends I've known since high school.

I didn't think I pushed off the beach that hard but this is what I have now.

Can I warm that up with a propane torch and gently bend it back or is that something to worry about?

It might be set to counteract rotation of the prop.

Any attempt to fix it will break it off. Ignore it.

Leave alone and keep checking for any cracking though.

I agree and I would look on EBay for a used replacement.

Well, I'm going to try and leave it alone.  Shit like that pegs my OCD meter, though.

Only solution....fish more. You can't see the skeg when it's in the water!

Oh yeah and 100% leave it alone. You will just break it off trying to straighten it.

I would leave it.   Bending it back is just going to weaken it.

Leave as others have said.

Won't make much of a difference if it breaks off.

I have run some outboard with no skags and no problems.

They do get a little torqued to one side. 🫣 A buddy of mine found a round weed guard that he was able to bolt onto what was left a broken skeg. And he’s been running that for about 25 years. I added a plain board with trim tabs to a Mariner 25hp once with a broken skeg. It actually worked out well. I can’t remember the brand.

Pretty much this.   It don't go back.    Buy another lower unit if you need it to be straight

And don't worry about it,.  Especially if you keep
Beaching it like

Think
Of it like a loose tooth now.
