We're interested in getting gravity filter like a Big Berkey, but it seems like there are lots of knockoffs of both the black filter cartridges and the systems themselves. Different logos abound, and to complicate matters it seems like there's a new legitimate logo. Can any of you recommend from personal experience an online retailer that sells the genuine article? As a side note, would the British Berkfield be a good alternative? |

I don't trust Berkey to be honest. Go look at their removal rates. You can't seem to find the "lab" results these days, but they used to claim 99.99% removal for just about everything. I work with labs all the time with water testing. No way do lab results work out where the results are always 99.99%. They have no variability in their data. Plus, the technology isn't super high-tech purification equipment. You could RO/DI/CDI water ($$$) and not achieve what they claim. But, filter companies have been preying on consumers for decades. "I want to only drink filtered water!". Buyer beware. |
