My son has a job that requires a flashlight to be used for several hours at a time. I bought him a nice flashlight but want to get some spare batteries. Are the Walmart ones just as good as anything else?

Batteryhookup has some screaming deals but the cells they selll are usually part of a battery pack that needs to be taken apart. Kind of a pita on some of them but cost savings are substantial if you want more than a few batteries.

Does the flashlight require a 'button top' cell?

Any of the big 5: Panasonic/Sanyo, Sony/Murata, LG, or Samsung should be fine.

Molicel is another good Chinese brand.

Question already asked an answered:

18650 battery sources

The problem is the best buys of the protected cells are out of stock.  Mtn Electronics only accepts paypal, I don't do paypal.

The orbtronic batteries have been great for me. Last a long time in both charge and overall battery life

I prefer mtnelectronics.com, been building torches from them for years.

most of those seem expensive.  I can get Streamlight batteries on Amazon for $20/two count
