Anyone trained their dog for blood trailing? Got a GSP that needs a job but I don't bird hunt anymore. A breeder I know thinks he'd be good at it. Looking for recommendations and tips.

Its actually pretty easy, if the dog has good obedience.  Take a piece of raw meat and allow the dog to see you hide it under an object....let the dog find it and eat it as a reward.   Then, move the meat beyond the box but allow a few drops.to hit the ground (allow the dog to.watch).  Progress until you can move it out of sight allowing a few drops here and there.  Just keep progressing.  Pick a search command that you wanna use.   Also, be sure to provide lots of praise for "finding it".   You can also use other fluids once you locate them, such as stomach bile (for those dreaded gut shots).  Once your dog.can successfully find the prize each time you can make it harder by using other materials such as deer hair or hooves.
