For anybody that hasn't tried them and likes to get off the beaten path I highly recommend them. You don't have to be military to use the Army COE campgrounds. Not like a resort at all but they are cheap, $26 a night for most and I have a senior life time pass so it's half price, $13 a night. Most are 50 and 30 amp, with water, most don't have Sewer. I wouldn't go to them at first due to no Sewer, but they do have dump stations, then we figured out we can stay 5 nights without having to dump, just stop on the way out to dump the tanks. I did buy a portable dump tank but haven't had to use it yet. We have only been to 3 so far, but I'm about to retire and plan on using them alot. So far we have camped at Service Park near Coffeeville AL. Miller's Ferry near Camden Al. And Issac Creek near Monroeville Al. We have a 2022 Grand Design Reflection 278BH 5th wheel. Pull it with 2022 Ram 2500 6.4 liter gas with 8 speed transmission. I usually set the transmission so it don't shift past 6th gear while towing. You can get the recreation.gov app and make reservations using the app. |

| Every one that I’ve been to has a sign at the entrance saying that you are agreeing to a search of your person and property by entering. Firearms are not allowed. They anre federal property. After seeing two different places posted like this I don’t bother. They are off my list. |

| I prefer the COE campgrounds. At Carlyle Lake we have both state Parks and COE campgrounds. For quite a while the state parks were going downhill and seemed to bring in more turds and the Corps campgrounds were run a bit stricter and kept in great condition(grass was mowed, shower buildings were clean and not moldy, Everything was in working order). We just came back from a weekend at the state park and it is better than I seen if in 5 plus years. The COE has a contract with the Sheriffs Dept to keep 1-3 Deputies assigned strictly to corp property during the weekends and holidays. Really keeps thefts and typical roudiness down along with the local transients out. The state parks rely on locating a game warden that is somewhere in 1-3 counties to respond to L.E. issues. |

The Last one we stayed at, Miller's Ferry, they had just built a new bath/laundry house. Air conditioned and very nice. No charge to use washers or dryers. The host told me they would eventually have all of them changed over to free laundry. The old bathhouse at that same campground has a coin operated washer and dryer, but the host said they will work without putting any money in them. Old bathhouse does not have AC though. |
