I’m exploring options for compression bags. Anyone know if there’s a style of compression bag out there that has an air release valve? I’m thinking of a bag similar to a vacuum seal bag with a release valve, but uses direct pressure applied by hand to compress air out instead of a vacuum. Use would be for over and under quilts, hammock and clothes. |

But, I have had a few leak at the valve. Splashing water will be fine but not if submerged. |

Been using them for at least 15 years when I was last issued them. I also have had minor leaks so consider them to be enhanced splash protection only. I also have a few Earth Pak and Piscifun rubber bags from Amazon and those HAVE been waterproof as long as they are rolled tight. Really like them. Very durable. Pretty sure both are made in the same place. All mine are larger than the MACS sacks. |

| I use compression sacks by Granite Gear and Sea To Summit, they don’t have valves but both have eVent bottoms that allow air to be pushed out but don’t let water in. GG uses sil-nylon for the body, S2S uses PU-coated nylon. I’ve never had anything get wet in either of them despite hiking in some pretty heavy rain. I like the GG bags a little better, they don’t have bottom grab handles to make emptying easier but they’re lighter and are rectangular to minimize wasted space in packs. I have had the seam tape come off my oldest one, there’s a lifetime warranty but I just removed the tape, cleaned with alcohol, and applied seam sealer. |
