I loved my Browning Maxus 2 for shooting clays. I am sure they have a hunting version, but I had the Carbon Fiber Sporting. Shot really soft, ran any ammo I used, and was super reliable.

For teaching kids or new shooters, I have always recommended a single shot break-open. It teaches you to be a better shot, if you start them on an auto or a pump they will shoot 3 shots at EVERYTHING. Single shot slows them down and makes them aim better. It's how I learned.

I plugged my 1100 20gaLT so it basically turned it into a single shot.
Also reloaded some 3/4 oz low recoil that would cycle the action anyway.
