One I/O, one with a report, and NCS.

Net time coincided with a tstorm here, thanks for picking up NCS.

I should be present to NC tonight, however we've been having extensive thunderstorms for the past
week, many of them pretty electrical, so we'll see if it's actually safe for me to TX at net time. |
Like most living things, you run them through a combine, it'll pretty much take care of it.

Tuned up on 20M. 73, Rob

I'm dealing with active lightning strikes at < 1 mile according the the strike alarm.
We'll see where I'm at by net time, and this point I'm QRT until the lightning is far enough away. |

I can fill in if needed.

T-storms in my area tonight. Lightning, but unfortunately not much rain, which we really need.
I'll try to get in if I can safely hook up my antennas. |
Sending out on 7120.
Turns out my transmit time out was set to short. That is why we do this is to practice. Got it extended in the radio settings, will be better next week.
Thanks for doing the net, GreenDragon.
Still having random bolts here. Fortunately we're getting real rain every day and the forest is loving it. |

I should be present to NC tonight if it's safe to do so. It's actively thunderstorming here right now and it's
not even noon yet, so it's iffy. Yesterday we had quite the electrical storm. |

Storms in area but the thunder so far is distant and no readings on the strike detector within 15 miles so far.
Fingers crossed. First notice will go out at 2300Z as usual. |

... first reminder out without a glitch, still nothing on the strike detector. This could happen.

@seek2
On which band are you doing the notices? There is a major geomagnetic storm in progress and I wanted to check propagation. 73, Rob |

Thanks, I must have had the rig turned down, you are there twice when I looked at the FLDIGI screen.

I can see y'all talking about not hearing my warnings even if you can't hear me.
Do we need an alternate NC? |

We'll see how it goes, I can transfer to someone else after the first set of calls if not everyone hears me.

Five stations + NC tonight.
Really awful propagation, all but one station was at or near ghost print. |

I heard all stations 100% except NC. NC was 0% copy on decode and Waterfall, would bounce up to 100% at 15dB for a sentence or two, and then drop back down to 0%
Agreed, being in the middle of the country has an advantage. Did anybody check 20M for activity?

I hunted a couple of POTAs on 20m before net and picked up the Navajo Codetalker SES on 20m around 2030 central.
Immediately after net, I sent out an HB on 7078 JS8 and seemed to get out fine. |
I could hear most check-ins, but it was rough and not 100% print. Net Control was only about S-3 here and in the noise from some local scattered T-storms (finally.) Too bad we only got a few drops of rain out of them.
I usually have another 2 meter FM simplex net going on in my area at the same time as this net. Usually I can do both at the same time, but last night it was just a little too rough to copy. |

Next time prop sucks we should try one of the narrower Olivia modes and see if we can quantify the difference. I understand that narrower is better, not sure I understand the affect of the number of tones, fewer is slower but better snr?

There's more ECC on the higher tone count, so the SNR goes up with the number of tones.
The data rates go down, though, I think because it needs more samples to determine the bin the tone is in. We've played with it in the past. The reality is the SNR improvements are pretty minor relative to the noise (500/16 is -14dB decode, 500/64 is -19dB decode.) Ultimately I think when Olivia isn't working there's just not a good enough path for much of anything to work. The high SNR modes start to get really slow, like FT8/WSPR level slow. |

We'll need a volunteer this week's net control as I'm tied up with work (and I'm having thunderstorms every single day now, which doesn't help.)
Next week my schedule should go back to normal for a month or more. |

I can't do it, traveling for work in Missouri / Kansas. Might be able to remote in to my shack for an in/out of time (and wx at home) allows.

I can do it. I'll be on 7120. Probably won't get a warning out until 30 minutes prior.

And I won't be able to make it tonight. I have a conflict with another net/exercise where I need the same equipment.
Be back next week. |
I was able to receive everyone during comments.

Great net tonight. 7 check ins plus NC for 8. Strong signals and low noise.....except for the guy talking.
The band is in good shape tonight, the interfering station may have been in another region/ Micronesia/ etc.

Sure thing, happy to do it.
I wish that you'd send a little rain our way, I'd even take some thunderstorms. |
I will be present to NC today -- no storms are forecast and I'm done working evenings.

I'm going to have to miss again tonight. We have another drill/practice session using winlink peer-to-peer tonight, getting ready for a big state-wide ARES/RACES digital exercise next month.

First reminder out at 2300Z.
ETA: 2315Z out as well. ETA #2: And 2330Z, too. Copying testing and traffic from two other stations, one can't hear me. ETA #3 copied a fellow AZ station as well! |

I could hear what i believe to be your 2345Z warning, but I wasn't able to pick up any activity on the decode panel

I can if you want. Not sure that I'll do any better. 40m arf phone net was very regional last night.
