Using a HF pipe bender to bend the 1/2 & 5/8 rebar. It is working perfectly.

When we build our retirement place I want to build a storm shelter/vault off the master bedroom closet using ICF. Looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.

Is this a poured concrete building on a slab? Roof is? I'm in the PNW so I only know of basements, root cellars or an underground bunker from when I was a kid down south. I had no idea you got tornadoes that far north or is this build for other situations?
ETA: ICF is? |

[#5]
Oh yes, tornadoes, severe weather of all sorts.
Yes, on a slab. The water table here is where you don't dig. Put down 10 inches or so of gravel, water barrier, then your slab. This slab is 10 inches thick, with a LOT of rebar. Walls will be poured with the roof in one go. Pumper trucks make the pour easy. |

ICF is Insulated Concrete Form. Setup the forms, fill with concrete. The forms stay in place as part of the structure. DIY friendly, energy efficient, strong, all good things.

Luv concrete.
Was a redymix delivery driver when the man was born. Decided that when I do concrete it will have rebar and steel fiber. A couple decades later.... The Man is now an adult and enters the concrete world as a finisher. Now when I do concrete it will also have trap rock. Trap rock is like the rock used for rail road foundations but just the bitty bit fragments. It is applied late in the pour process and makes the surface real hard. |

I heard of a crew pouring a project and they pumped it to fast and then styrofoam forms started blowing out!
My be a different product than what they used, but they all look similar The tried using plywood next to styrofoam, but they lost it I think they had to jack hammer a lot out |

I'll just say that the demo man that ordered me exclusively to deliver his concrete said that the poly reinforced concrete came apart NICE. OP I expect that you are going to be paying for mileage to get concrete to your property...that cost is fixt for you. Do your homework and make sure that you get the best concrete for your area. The demo man was from up near canada and was ordering concrete to withstand -87 to be placed in Texas south of I20. Fine man your money not my circus not my monkey. Just make sure you are ordering the top tier concrete for your area. |

We have only ever poured concrete block, but one structure was a 2 story where some of the blocks were notched for the floor joists. We "thought" we had the space covered well enough but there was some minor blowing out. This was with grout mix. Only time that happened. |

As normal with the chaos that is my life, we have other priorities that got bumped up. Hopefully get it completely ready for the pour this week if my son gets home on time. The good news is it IS still standing as I left it! ICF is vulnerable until it is filled. |

Yeah, I'll be doing 4.5 inch concrete roof. 4 inch is specified per fema plans. Getting closer, but the new business office has to come first. I'm hoping to work on it this week though. My son is at our old house, finishing it to put it on the market, so I'm on my own. |

Good looking room OP.
I had a 12X14 above ground storm room built. They used 8X8X16 trough blocks with rebar and the roof was poured solid at 6 inches. This is the door I went with, poured in place with steel bolts into the blocks before they filled the walls. I don't know the weight but it took a forklift to put it in my truck and then the truck instantly squatted. I think 8 of us had to get it out of my truck and man handle it into place. I ordered mine to open inwards. The door handle and all the locks are keyed the same. It isn't a vault door but it is damn close. FEMA rated storm door |
