| My cottontail rabbit population is getting wiped out and I am in need of a good box trap to catch feral cats but still be able to release skunks and raccoons, any suggestions on a good trap with a way to release from a safe distance. |

Needed to because they were urinating in wrecked customer cars. Used a racoon trap. First couple fell for it right away. After that had to get creative with bait and use camouflage. They eventually couldn't resist. Caught around 15. They got a trip to the humane society. Some were euthanized in the trap others they tried to adopt. Doubt any were. The place had hundreds of cats. |
| Live box trap with catnip on a coffe can lid. Catches cats and not opposums, coons, and other wild animals. I have been dealing with wild and loose domesticated cats and they have been disappearing after falling victim to my catnip trap. Animal control just dumps them somewhere else. |

| I dont have a problem catching cats, I have a problem releasing skunks without harm and me smelling like a skunk. I have one trap with a release that I hook a rope to, I cant find one like that and thought someone would have some ideas. |

I'm up in Bonner county idaho, the animal control in Priest River lends out single sided large havahart traps for feral cats at no cost. They inoculate and socialize the cats then adopt them out as barn cats. |

| My reason for needing to release at a safe distance is I am not targeting skunks and other animals I release them here on my place and let them go its just feral cats that I am after snd they need to be removed from my area because they are devastating the native small game and birds. yes I have realeased skunks with the blanket method but I have had some issues doing this because I am in a wheelchair and that has been very difficult. |

If it is a nuisance animal to you, it will be a nuisance animal in its new setting as well. A lot of feral cat communities came from assholes dumping unwanted cats "out in the country," where they become unwanted in their new location as well. I am just saying, don't be that guy who just moves your problem to someone else's location. If it is unwanted, then you need to take care of it, whether that means taking it to a shelter or dispatching it. Just don't dump it off "in the country" to become someone else's problem. I dont have any problems dealing with the cats that I catch. |

You may want to consider asking on an Aussie forum. They are considered far more of a threat there, and the government puts bounties on them I believe. I love cats, I have actually found myself liking them more than dogs over the years. Good cats can be just as affectionate but far lower maintenance, and do better on their own. However they are indoor animals. People who “have a pet cat” that roams the neighborhood and comes home every couple weeks to eat are not pet owners. Outside cats destroy local wildlife often not even out of necessity. |

just get a Have a Heart trap. They come in all sizes. You want about a medium for cats. What you do with them after capture is up to you. |

I was starting to think I was the only person who thought that way. Thanks for confirming I'm not alone.  I live at the end of a road right next to a huge field and people like to abandon their pets here. The last few weeks of cold have been heartbreaking. |

| I have the same problem. There is no animal control here and we have a ton of stray cats. I have caught 3 with the hav-a-heart trap but I have one problem cat I have been unable to catch. Why is it everyone seems to think dumping animals in the country is the answer? A neighbor got video of a guy dumping 5 puppies by his driveway. |

| It seems that some of the people posting on my thread here are not reading my post thoroughly. I have many live traps and I am well aware of how to trap animals as I have been a trapper since the mid 70s. What I am asking for is a specific kind of trap that lets me release non target animals without harm or stinking like a skunk myself. I know all about the blanket method but I am in a wheelchair and that makes that Very difficult. Does anyone know where I can get a trap like what I described in my post that has a release that I can attach a small rope too. And I also will not be releasing the problem cats in another area for others to deal with I have solutions for the problem animals as that was not part of what I was asking. |

Wire some feathers to the trip bail on a dog proof coon trap? Use a cat specific lure? Another feather sight lure tied above your set? If you could set it up higher on something that a skunk couldn’t climb more better. I’ve caught cats in coon sets never tried the above but I bet if you gave him something to pull on in the mouth of the trap you’d get him. Assuming you’re dispatching them they are a bear to release live from one. Cat lure |
