| I’m looking to upgrade from my Browning made in china knife set. As much as I like Benchmade, I’m not looking to spend hundreds on a knife set. What’s a good set that’s under maybe $200? I could go over that if need be but I’d prefer not to. |

An affordable good quality boning knives to start with is Victronox/Forschner. You can find stiff, semi flexible, flexible. One of my favorite is this: You can find the same knife with fibrox handles, I prefer wood.  ETA made in Switzerland, no chineysum. |

You don't need a set. Sets are almost always including stuff you don't need/want. Better to buy knives that you know you will use and is suited for your use. Victorinox is what you seek. I prefer the 6" semi stiff curved boning knife for pretty much everything I do with whitetail. If you're into moose/elk/cows you might need something like a 10" breaking knife too for some of the larger muscle groups. But for deer, you don't need anything over the 6" boning knife. I butcher 2-5 deer a year 100% myself with a bit of help from the family. But I kill, skin, quarter, bone, wrap, and freeze. Plus I can all the trim. |

I already have the straight and curved one with the polymer handle. I had to cut up my deer this year to pack it out of the woods and though I had two decent knives, it will go better next time with the Victorinox blades. I also butchered my first deer, learned a lot, and it went well. |
