I want to get into surf & inshore fishing this summer. I'm in PA but go to NJ beaches through the spring-summer-fall. I suppose my primary target would be stripper but I want a somewhat "do it all" set up. What rod/reel would you guys recommend for both surf and inshore? I assume braided line? What lb? |

I know the "Canadian ballet" likes to target US fishermen. Lots of US girls used to go there to work - prostitution is legal.  Regarding the striped bass - do you want to soak bait or try to chase them up and down the surf? those are two different setups. I've only used a fly rod from the surf (with very little success) and used gear from a boat (with a lot of success, but my surf buddies tell me boat fish don't count.) I'm expecting to get out on the beach with some guys who actually know what they are doing this year. It's about the only thing that will get me to Jersey. |

@LibertyOrDeath76 My buddy and I plan to target stripers this fall. We intend to primarily fly fish, but his experience is with conventional tackle and we will do that as well. He told me to get a 9' -10' medium to medium heavy rod and a bait runner type reel - if we are fishing at night we will be soaking clams or bunker. I got an Okuma Avenger ABF 6000 and a Jigging World JW-OX962S-MH Onyx. I spooled with 30# Suffix. It easily casts out of my yard - over 100 yards. Seems like a good setup to me. |
