Congrats, that's very cool.
Those are awesome looking rifles, I've thought about adding one to my collection someday. I've heard the recoil is pretty hard, is that true? How heavy are they? |

View Quote It depends on what you are used to shooting... compared to an AR carbine, they are heavy and jump around much more. The "target" PTRs with the heavy barrel and aluminum handguards are especially heavy. The HK profiled barrel ones are probably a full pound lighter. Compared to other MBRs they are about average, weight wise, and although they jump more than an AR, they are very far from being punishing or uncomfortable to shoot. - AG |

I am seriously considering one, but would like to hear some first-hand experience with the unit before I take the plunge. |

Just finished the painting and reassembly today.
All the lettering turned out great, they were originally filled in with crayons because i was bored one day then painted over and scraped out with a safety pin. Seriously, that is probably the best looking home done paint jobs I've seen so far, I like the combination of "snakeskin" and grass. |

View Quote I second that. Pretty sure I have the same laundry bag. I'm also pretty sure I don't have the balls to throw it over a $2-$3K rifle and optic and start spraying. The crayon trick really makes it look pro. |

Guess I could have mentioned that too before y'all think I had the testical fortitude to do this to an actual larue...its just what I used as a stripped lower for my build

I never understood the Fudd mentality. That guide gun is beautiful and would work great on pigs. But the AR-type guns seem almost purpose built for the task, why put them down? A B&C composite stock, with the bed glassed and the barrel floated. The trigger has been adjusted to 2 pounds and the rifle sits on a Harris bipod. For glass I use a Pentax 6-24x Lightseeker scope with a mil dot reticle and target knobs. I use Sierra150 grain Matchking hollow point boat tail match bullets in my hand loads. With the rifle supported only on the bipod, I can routinely shoot 3 round groups at 100 yds you can cover with a dime. Only a handful of times in over 20 years have I ever had to put a second round in the hog. Most times they drop right where they are hit. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/stm58/remington700.jpg I usually catch a bit of ribbing for it but most hunts all I carry my M1 Garand and my .45 on my hip. Honestly, out to 200 yards why do you need glass on the rifle? Acquisition with iron sights is a lot easier and quicker than a scope anyway http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/stm58/m1.jpg View Quote That Garand will do you for pretty much anything in the lower 48. I love those rifles. If I were using an AR for hogs I'd go 6.5/6.8 or maybe 300BLK with supersonics. But 30-06 with a .45 backup sounds mighty good too. Only downside is that if suppressors are legal where you hunt it makes a lot of sense to use one, and it would be downright criminal to thread a Garand barrel. |
