I have a 1.5 year old GSD that I am working on training with, the e-collar I use is a mini educator 300. He is fine off leash unless he sees another dog, and he tunnel visions to go up to them and try to play. At times, when he does roam off like that, I seem to get little to no response from activating the collar. I have elongated titanium prongs, a full battery, and a relatively tight collar. His standard “stimulation” is set at 35, and the boost goes up to 55. I don’t want to go higher because when it does get a response at 55 he really notices it, so I suspect it’s a poor connection due to his thick fur. Any advice? |

I was going to ask, Is it: Not putting out the shock? Putting out the shock, but his fur is blocking it? Putting out the shock, but he is ignoring it, because of his desire to get to the other animal to play or whatever is on his mind is greater than the bother of the shock? I've got two dogs that had those ""Pet Safe" E-Collars and if stimulated enough they will 100% blow off the shock, even at levels higher than I'm ok with... |

| Depending on the dog's fur has a lot to do with it. I had an Aussie who had a love for eating chickens, I darned near had to melt him down with the collar before he decided the chickens weren't worth it. |

I think his fur is blocking the connection, but the difficulty is figuring that out. My next step I think is going to be to get a long rope for the end of his leash, let him think he’s off lead, then bring my uncles dog out to see if he reacts the same to stimulus several times. |

Feather contacts. Feathers ETA: Martin Systems uses an app (Doggify) so that you can monitor your contact on your phone. I've never found it to be 100 percent reliable, but it's out there if you want to spend the money on one of their collar systems. It's a buy once, cry once kind of thing, but once you make the switch, it's very hard to go back to anything else. |
