Old old old chambering... Europes version of the 45-70. Big, slow, and originally black powder.. and it's been common in the same kind of guns: various forms of single shot ( notice the big ass rim on that thing?). It was and is a low pressure big old chunk of lead moving at modest speeds .... Where we had 45-70, 45-90, 38-55, they used the 9.3.... it's commonly used in break open singles, various falling blocks, and Cape Guns ( shotgun/ rifle combos) and drillings... The most interesting variation I've seen was a three barrel: 16 gauge, 9.3, 22 hornet.. the " one gun for all uses" ... |

Correct it is an older black powder design and pretty anemic by todays standards. Pretty Much it’s only use in the States would be a s a woods stalking rifle for whitetail and maybe pigs. It was supplanted but the much better 9.3x74R which is available I both single shots like the Ruger #1 and both O/u and SxS double rifles. It is a truly excellent round pushing a 286 gr at 2250 fps. |
