I shot a really nice doe today at just over 200 yards. The projectile was a factory 75 grain Speer Gold Dot from a 20" barrel.

She was above me at about a 25 degree angle. She was HUGE (likely about 200#) and her head and muzzle were all greyed out.

She dropped in her tracks.

The exit hole was impressive at nearly 3" across.

Projectile retained weight was exactly 54 grains and just over .62 at its widest. The entrance was a dime sized hole.

I found the projectile laying on the ground just underneath.

Couldnt ask for better performance for the most.part.   The retained weight is pretty good considering it blew through a rib and them blew through the spine.

I shot a decent buck this morning with the same round.  60 yards quartering away.  Clipped the front of the liver, took off the top of the heart, snuck between the offside ribs and just barely made it through the meat at the back of the off shoulder.  Did not find the bullet.

Damage to the heart and one lung was impressive, but barely passed through.  If it hadn't been a heart shot I think it would have been a difficult track.

ETA:  It was a 10.5 pistol as per pic below so velocity was not ideal.

Heart pics.  Obviously still expanding as it entered the heart.

I should've taken pics of the exit.  Just about a .50 hole out the off side.  Very little bloodshot meat, so it must've been going pretty slow at that point.

I've had great luck with the 62gr version of the Gold Dot.  My AR only has a 1:9 so I can't stabilize those super long bullets.

My kids have put down 8 deer now with the 62's and every one so far is one shot kill.  All but 2 have exited.  Puts deer down fast.

I shot this one with the same round out of a 14.5.  The heart was mush and the deer didn't move an inch.
