Largest wild critter in your yard (Page 1 of 2)

Wife and I were out for a walk yesterday and bumped into 3 doe antelope. Got me thinking about the buck pronghorn that hung around our place a couple years. That got me wondering about the biggest wildlife that had been in our yard. First I thought it was the bear but then I remembered the 17 burros, most of them were heavier than the bruin. I guess the antelope would be third and down to coyotes. My niece in Alaska had moose in her yard, I've only had one in my freezer. So what's the biggest you've had visit your yard? |

Largest I've SEEN in my yard was a big-assed raccoon. Seriously the largest coon I've ever seen... I'm guessing 75 pounds. We have a mountain lion in my AO as well, I've seen his tracks in my front yard. The local animal control officer confirmed his presence. He lives in the foot hills about a mile away, comes to town for the kibbles people leave their dogs & cats. The pets are wise enough to let him alone. I've only seen him from a distance. |

| Just the neighborhood raccoon that is smart enough to avoid all the traps that everyone's ever set out. Racoons may seem small, but this guy's so freaking big and fat that he honest to goodness has to struggle/waddle to walk, it's like the size of at least three normal raccoons. I once saw the thing crossing the road, it was like watching an obese person whose mobility scooter broke down trying to walk across the park. |

I've seen a few mountain lions but not right here around the house. There were tracks up on the hill though a few years ago. That is the one critter I dislike the most although they aren't that tough if you have a firearm, even a 22 should work to convince them they should be elsewhere. |

Three deer grazing in the front yard. Black bear passed through to eat in the neighbors trash cans. The neighbors use a commercial trash collection service to the delight of the local bear family. I don't mind driving to the recycle center a couple times a week. |

There’s a moose that wanders through my property from time to time. Mostly just elk and mule deer on a daily basis. And about 20 turkeys. Assorted foxes and the occasional mountain lion. Oh yeah and several bears. |

Moose. The bear here are healthy, but the moose are bigger. |
Donate to your local 2A organizations before the national orgs. The local orgs are proactive and get things done in your state house where the nationals are reactive and try to fix things after the fact and from a distance.

I'm afraid if had been me there would have been an in defense of life and property form to be filled out once it got to the tent. I really don't like grizzlies of any caliber. |

| They say there are 50,000 mustangs in the state but the only times we have had horses on the lawn they were from a ranch. It is against the rules to run domestic horses on public range but that didn't bother me. I've had their cattle in the yard two and although that pissed me off it was my fault because it is open range and I should close the gate. I close it when I know they are running cattle but sometimes the sneaky bovines catch me off gaurd. |

Largest wild animals are deer, they swarm my pasture every day. I did have about 20 stray Herefords show up once but they didn’t look too wild. |

The bear I chased away from my trash can weighed in the neighborhood of, I'm only guessing, 100 pounds. He wanted back in the trash can so bad he looked up at me like a puppy as he came slowly toward me and I would yell at him and he would back off again. I don't care much for bears, even black bears, this little fella was cinnomom, but damn it was cute. |

Bears and mountain lions. Caught a bear on the back deck last year, a group of them in the area had been breaking into homes and raiding kitchens last summer, a bear likely from that group killed as man as well. Cam on my driveway caught the biggest lion I've ever seen a couple years ago... minutes after my wife walked in from getting the mail. She agreed she wasn't going to do that anymore. Attached File |
