Getting kind of late in the season here in Ohio, but last night at my son's baseball game, a neighbor down the street told me the night before, he had 5 or 6 coyotes going nuts behind his house. I told him I would stop by after the game. I got there and tried some distress calls, followed by a few howls. Nothing responding. So I look back to my videos from last April to see what calls they were responding to. I found one that I had shot 4 or 5 with during April 2025, so I put it on the call. Last year, that particular call this time of year seemed to bring them running from over 1,000 yards away. I was scanning and noticed a coyote coming down a hill about 500 yards away. I got on the gun and kept scanning. There are many little depressions on that hill that they tend to disappear behind. He suddenly popped up right behind a fence 335 yards out. Usually they come out on the other side of that fence. Knowing that fence in that area is too tight for coyotes to cross, I decided to try a shot. I recently got my new scope and had not used the ballistic compensator yet. I would range it, and then after moving back to target, it would change the aimpoint. I shot twice before remembering there was a button to push to lock in the aimpoint at the ranged distance. He luckily stopped again at 384 yards, and I locked it in. He dropped at the shot, hit through the throat and out the back of the head. Big male.  Coyote 384 Yards Attached File Attached File |
