| Location? I would suggest watching some YouTube videos of fishing in your general area to see what species is being targeted and what gear/methods they are using. Depending on where you are, that could be fly fishing, casting lures or using bait and a bobber. Then go get a license and gear and learn as you go. Or find a friend to show you the ropes. |

I've fished many times with my dad and with a few friends who are all really into it. I don't have the patience or get into it. But having done it, I'd say. 1. Get the appropriate licenses, if needed where you at or are going to fish.. Stupid I know. There is bound to be a loophole, like you can fish in emergencies.. HAM Radio Joke.. LOL. 2. Find a good place to fish. Determine what type of fish and whats the best bait. 3. Determine whats the best pole for the situation. 4. Determine what you going to do with them IF you catch. Toss back, Keep? Where, How, get whats needed. 5. Find out limits on length, weight and qty keep-able. 6. Have fun. |

| Get a light spinning rod combo, put some 6lb braid or mono on it, get a 1/4 oz dressed Mepps inline spinner in any color you feel like, go find a farm pond with not too many trees hanging over it, and wear out some bluegills. You think you're hooking them, but it's you that'll get hooked. Too easy. |

Go at your own pace. I started lake fishing five years back and found the most important thing was to learn to tie various knots. I bought a cheap fishing rod/reel, a backpack, and some of the essentials. For trout I used trout magnets, which are easy to to use and work fairly well for catching bass, trout, and bluegill.  |
