NASA's EODIS website at https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/alerts/ It's a simple setup to log in, you give them an email and they send a confirmation code. NASA has feeds from multiple earth observation satellites that detect fires based on their heat (IR) emissions, and you can set up a watch area and they'll email you as soon as anything is detected in that area. I live in the forest and detection often happens a few hours before the local fire people (either USFS or the local fire/sheriff's dept) notice, though I think they use it too as I've heard deputies searching for detections before to confirm them. |
