The one the 'yote got was rather amusing. I shot the rabbit at about 30 yards, it ran away, wounded, doing the crazy wounded rabbit scream. It ran into a big patch of mesquite and kept screaming. I stalked up on it, planning on zapping it when it ran. As I moved up on the patch the screaming intensified and then stopped. As I rounded the patch I saw two coyotes running off with my rabbit in their jaws! Just as well, as these will all end up as coyote bait eventually. All these were DRT, with barely a twitch. One required a follow up shot (the big jack with the wound in its haunches). That was a longer shot than I would have liked, probably around 35-40 yards, kind of pressing the limit of what I can do with the Beretta. I finished him with a head shot after about five minutes of stalking at about 20 feet. Pistol is a Beretta Neos 4.5" with a Silencerco Sparrow and a PA micro red dot. Ammo is CCI Minimags. . Didn't see any so went home. Then an hour before sunset went into the woods behind the house and drop this fat grey male. Took him back to the house cleaned him out and went back and and got another grey, female this time. Will those them into the dutch oven when camping later.

Between my two .22 pistols that can take a can I think I have 50+ bunnies popped, nearly all jackrabbits. CCI "Quiet" .22's and Remington sub-sonics constantly disappoint me, usually needing a second shot to put them down. The best luck I've had have been with CCI Mini-mags. I've tried CCI Stingers but even with the can they are LOUD. |

Doing some work around the yard and the tree rats are almost always out in force. Usually the 10/22 or one of the Gamo's get a pretty good workout, but I didn't feel like walking back to the garage this time so the Single Six got the task! In the freezer with the rest until I decide to make some stew he goes!

| What shotgun shot size is everyone using for rabbits and squirrels? We've always used #6, but according to the charts from Federal Ammo, I could hunt squirrel, rabbits, and several types of bird with #7.5. Does #7.5 get the job done? I'm planning to use a 2.75" 16 gauge with modified choke. |

So I had my first ever squirrel hunt this morning. I had half a day to hunt before the incoming blizzard, and with a freezer full of venison I decided to skip trying to fill one of my last late season deer tags and instead I grabbed some #5 shot and headed out along a stream that runs through an area of hardwoods. Saw quite a few, and managed to bag 2. Now their skinned, gutted and soaking in some brine. I think I need to take one of my .22 rifles and set it up with a scope as a dedicated squirrel rifle.
