So, been a while since I visited water topic. I have roughly 40K gallon pool in back yard. It is salt water. I had new liner installed 3 years ago. I never used CYA or anything else. Ran SWG at 70% and water is fine. I do not have a well for SHTF water, neighbors do. Neighbors said you got generators, I don’t. Provide power and we both have water. He is 72 and recently retired. So I am looking at 12V Sureflow pumps and under sink RO systems. My emergency plan is to have either M18 transfer pump / Sureflow 12V pump draw from pool. Pumping through a sediment filter Like this, to under sink RO system Like this. During normal times I can have great drinking water instead of using Brita filters. If SHTF, I can use the pump/inline filters to feed the under sink system. TJ or any other water guys have opinion on how stupid this water plan is? I keep 10-12 cases of bottled water for normal preps. I have 8- MWC I keep full in shop. I treat with bleach and rotate annually. Wanting to secure drinking water and water for cooking if we have grid failures. Using distillation would require fuels for boiling. Just thinking out loud here. Edit- I have 5- Sawyer Minis, attachments and 100 water bags. |

| Havent watched the video but as a pool owner i can say drinking pool water wouldnt be my first choice esp as many of the chemicals cant be filtered out.. salt/chlorine its all the same as salt (sodium chloride) is just separated into sodium and chloride by electrolysis to chlorinate the pool. Cya would be a big one but all the other secondary chemicals would worry me. |

I manage my own and have used all of the classes of chemicals listed below at some point, though not all the specific chemicals. Something to consider with the small units, especially those without a pump and that rely on line pressure is the recovery rate is pretty low. Meaning a lot of water is wasted and not passing into the clean side of the membrane and into the storage tank if your system has one. If no storage tank, you could run the RO tap to some other storage like jugs or whatever, but again generally small household units don't have a high flow rate or capacity because they are only using line pressure and small modules. Also, if you are coming off a pool, you definitely want to have a carbon filter pre module, because RO membranes do not like chlorine. Most undersink ones I have seen include one, but worth mentioning because membranes aren't cheap, and chlorine will trash it. |

As a 15yr CPO in sunny ol swamplandia. I wouldn't drink pool water. Especially with no active filtration ( aka shtf,, no power) or circulation. There's just to much additional chems in there. Now....shtf....you drain that fucker and refill and not add jack to it. Then pre-filter with a good carbon filter, RO or ceramic drip style..You'd prolly be ok....that is till a zombie falls into the pool and screws it all up. Ymmv. Eta: think you should look into what a salt water generator..." generates "  |
