Got what would have been a decent 8 point if his right side wasn't broken off. Shot him with a couple minutes left in shooting light so under estimated his rack. Big body deer so thought it was a bit better than it was. None the less it was delicious! Ate on of the inside loins tonight for a snack after cutting it up. Excellent terminal performance from Winchester 64 grain PowerPoint. My only gripe is that I've yet to have a blood trail from this cartridge, but it hasn't been an issue since they've all died within 50 yards. Just takes a bit to find them sometimes and that is low-key nerve wracking. Attached File |

My better half dropped her first deer ever this year. With a 8.5" 300BO SBR franken build w/ a Rex MG7 and Gorilla Ammo 115gr Pig punisher round. She's put in a lot of time and effort hunting, for years and just never could connect... till now. I think I am more excited for her than she was 😀 was so cool just being able to watch her get it done.

Tagged a young Mississippi River bottom buck with my 6x45 on Black Friday. Attached File Attached File Went exploring a dried lake bed after I got tired of sitting, and cold. I passed around a fallen tree and jumped this buck. He turned to look at me after 3-4 yards and I took my shot. The top photo shows the entrance wound which was a little left of what I should have aimed for. He bolted, leaving a nice trail of blood to follow. A hundred yards later he was piled up in some reeds. That spot never fails me, I always see deer back there. Getting them out is the problem - my truck was 3 miles away

High shoulder shot left an exit wound just below and behind the opposite leg, about the size of a quarter. He ran about 20 yards and dropped. Whole chest cavity was filled with blood and the top third of his heart and a lung were hamburger. Since it's my first I'm going to do a euro mount myself. |

This is the first that's left a noticeable trail, but I haven't had to look for them yet because of the four I've shot with this bullet, one dropped on the spot and the other three I was able to watch them until they dropped, so my point of reference is limited. My wife actually has hunted more than I have and so she found the trail for this one out of curiosity. It left enough of a trail that someone better than I could probably easily follow it. Blood splatters about the size of my pinky nail pretty much the whole way along the deer's route once the blood reached the exit wound. I've done a high shoulder shot for all four. The first was about 73 yards from a ground blind. That one went straight through both shoulders, so the doe dropped on the spot, but basically no blood because the blood in the chest cavity didn't reach the hole. The other three were from my tree stand, so a more elevated position. The bullet followed the same path for all three. Enters the shoulder leaving a .22 sized hole, angles down, wrecks the heart and a lung, then exits the lower chest and behind the trailing leg, leaving a quarter to half-dollar sized hole and a chest cavity full of blood and a slight trail. I could see a larger caliber being more forgiving, but I don't mind waiting for the shot because I'm more comfortable with the AR than the hunting rifle I "inherited." Attached File Attached File Bullet recovered from an adult doe, frontal shot, bullet traveled 20” to get stopped by the hide. 62 TSX Barnes out of an 11.5” Noveske. Somewhere I have a few more recovered 62’s and they all look like a factory advertisement for Barnes bullets. The 2 130/.308 bullets likewise. 35 years ago I never thought we’d be shooting deer with suppressed SBR’s in 5.56. |

My oldest Son connected on this doe out of one of my bow hunting stands. She stood broad side at 13 yards. 223 Federal Fusion - Center punched a rib on entry, took out both lungs and center punched the heart, broke the far shoulder on the way out. Deer ran about 60 yards and piled up. We didn't need the blood trail, but there was plenty available. We followed it for the experience and knowledge gain. So far, he's 2 shots, 2 kills in the deer woods with that RRA AR. Next year I'll be getting him a hunting rifle...he's plenty big enough to shoot a full size rifle and cartridge. Probably something in 7mm

I spent this past weekend enjoying some much appreciated cooler weather up in north Florida. I shot this guy Thursday with a muzzle loader at about 60ish yards, neck shot DRT...  Saturday am on the general gun opener I used a .300 BO with hand loaded 190gr Sub-X's that go about 1025, he went about 50ish yards with a clean pass through...  Then yesterday I shot this doe at about 30 yards with my G41 MOS using 230gr Gold Dots, no pass through and she went about 50ish yards...  |

Here's the buck I took last Sunday morning. He came into my small food plot next to standing corn. He was in no mood to hang out, he was in a quick trot. I shot him at 35 yards with his side/rear quarter facing me, resulting in severing the arteries above the heart. I used an Armscor/RIA VR82 20 gauge AR style shotgun with Winchester Super X slugs. ARs are not yet allowed here for hunting, maybe next fall. Attached File |

Second year hunting with a Shorty 6mm ARC, last year was a 12.5", this year was a custom 13" barrel and it's really about perfect for a woods gun. A 103gr ELDx starting @ ~2,460 fps performed great on this guy at about 50 yards with lots of damage to the lungs, an exit and a good blood trail.     |

We wife doesn’t look for alternative routes when using Maps and hits go for the first route that pops up. Beautiful drive but if you had car troubles you’d be screwed for assistance. Saw a lot of elk, mule deer, pronghorn and oil wells. |

Got this guy Thursday morning. Daniel Defense M4A1, 75-100m. Double lunged him. He made it about 25m and fell into a dry creekbed. Walked by him when I first tried to find his trail.   Lucky break on my part; I was very late getting out into the blind, and it was already shooting light by the time I started out across the meadow. This guy was chasing another buck across the meadow in front of me. He had the noticeably bigger rack, so he got the bullet. |

Late season buck, shot at about 50 yards with my AR10 with a Wilson Combat .358 Win barrel shooting hand-loaded Barnes 180gr TTSX bullets. Bullet entered front shoulder on a 45-degree facing shot and almost exited the opposite side ham. Perfect mushroom. 178gr retained weight.

Well I intended for my son to get a buck this am but unfortunately he picked the wrong stand. This time I used the 7mm-08 AR10 build and the Hornady 139gr SST. I was overlooking a filed that had a coupe brush piles form years ago when they cleared the field. I looked up and there he was, right in the pile itself eating some type of browse. This will close out my season as I have hit the five deer limit... so now I'm going to focus more on night hunting for coyotes until April or so.
