| My wife and I camp at Fleming Park in Jackson County MO several times over the spring/summer/fall camping season to be near our grandkids. Last year we heard that they were looking for attendants for this season. We set up an interview and started the hiring process. Last week we were approved, given employee ID numbers and have uniform shirts ordered. We will live on site for seven months working alternate weeks. We realized our little 22' Jayco camper was way too small to live in so went out and bought a 2026 31' Jayco Jayflight SLX with bunk beds for the grandkids. We move on site at the end of March and start April 1. Should be a interesting season! I'll try to give updates throughout the season. |

We run into folks that do this. Be aware, from time to time you come across an HOA Karen type. Be one of the sane ones, please. One retired couple goes from state park to state park all along the Gulf of America. 6 months in Texas, 2 months in Florida, etc. They seem to like the lifestyle and getting paid for it. |

I have a 40' Super C and and 26' stacker trailer so parking needs some planning. We decided to pull the coach to the rear of the site because of the hookup location and use a pickup to put the trailer in front of the motorhome. Karen the camp host would not shut up about "what if there is a tsunami and you need to leave?" I told her it is insured for full new replacement value, and I would be getting in my friends truck and un-assing the area. Then I would go buy a brand new motorhome. She just couldn't understand that concept. |

We used to camp at a place just west of Fredericktown called "Silver Mines" campground. About 2 miles back into the woods, upriver, there is an abandoned (You guessed it) Silver Mine and a Dam... For a good four years we camped there at least once a month, sometime 2-3 weekends. It was pretty cool as there was really only one way in/out and all the camp sites were around a large circle. Maybe 16 sites at most. We usually camped in a small group of about 6, sometimes more campers about every time. For the most part we were all regulars. At least one night a weekend, most of us ended up over at the camp hosts site, we built a bon fire and everyone brough food/drinks and it was a party. Whenever you got shitty drunk or too tired, you just peeled off to your camper. We cooked community breakfasts, then swam till lunch, ate, then swam till dinner. Thats unusually when the heave drinking came in. It was always a good time. The state dropped off a few ZTRs and other equipment for the host couple to use to mow and take care of the joint. It was a lot of work. I'd keep track of all your receipts for gas, supplies and anything you spend, work or personal and get enrolled in a few of those programs like Fetch, where you scan every receipt and its worth at least 25 points. Don't seem like much, but it'll add up quick and you can redeem it for Amazon Bucks or credit at other places... You'll eventually have issues with Drunks and get to know the Sheriffs dept. I'd contact them early on, to introduce yourself, get to know them and them you and the campground. I'm sure you'll always have your EDC, but you're better off letting the badges do your heavy lifting when it comes to the Unrulies... We saw a few every year. |

| Camp hosts saved out bacon out in a remote area of New Mexico. We punctured our oil pan and limped into camp. They had a sat phone and could call for a tow. We had planned on camping there already, so waiting a day for the tow truck wasnt an issue. It was 40 miles from the nearest highway and a couple hundred into town, so without that Sat phone we would have been stranded. |

We go to a certain campground regularly in the summer. Most of the camp hosts are awesome. One year the host was an incredibly unpleasant couple. All the regulars hated those people. The next year there was a new couple as the hosts and they were awesome. I was talking to the husband and mentioned the unpleasant couple to him. He told me everyone has told them how much the last years host was hated. |

| So, we have been on site for a week and open the campground tomorrow. Rain is predicted for the week so it should be slow. We had a training class on the computer system and went over park rules. Today we met the park rangers and operations managers. This is the third largest county park system in the US so it is very well ran and policed. But this park is very near the KC area and late Sunday night we heard two 9 round magazine dumps nearby followed by lots of sirens which was a bit disconcerting. This park has a large whitetail deer population and huge amount of ticks. The ticks are the only bad part but they are supposed to spray the campground after this weeks rain. Should be a interesting summer! |

It's the end of the busy Easter weekend. By Friday night nearly all of the RV sites were full and a few tent sites were occupied. Everything went pretty smooth, most of the RVs were high end units, only a few were older ones. Everyone was either retired or young families with kids. But we did have one Hispanic birthday party group and one transient to deal with. The Hispanic group just had to be told to not park in the grass and the homeless woman had to be told that she couldn't occupy the site without a tent. She was refunded and told to leave (Not by us but by park officials). The four person toilet/shower was easy to clean but one shitter went out of order and we started the week with malfunctioning hot water. The hot water problem was fixed by the maintenance crew in a few hours and they are coming out tomorrow to fix the shitter. We are off duty for a week starting Tuesday and we are ready for it! We are falling into our routine and it's really a easy job with lots of time to sit at camp, play games, surf the internet, watch TV, etc. |

We man the gate, check people in, make reservations, sell firewood, prepare cash drops for the rangers, clean the four toilet/showers, and drive around the campground making sure campground rules are followed. Really easy job but long days, we work 9AM-9PM alternating weeks with the other hosts. The campground patrons are mainly high end RV owners so everyone is well behaved. The good part is that our grandkids live nearby so they come out to visit us! Another benefit is that I walk around the campground a few times each day with our dog, about a one mile loop. |

Always thought that would be a cool job. Just getting my wife into camping - car camping with tent in our case. We’ve met several real nice camp hosts. One lady was kind of loopy but real sweet. Her husband was a hard looking old retired guy but a real hoot if you could catch him with a drink n cigar on their site. The lady brought us biscuits one morning because I told her my wife didn’t make biscuits. Fortunately my wife thought it was sweet and I didn’t wind up on her bad side. Going tomorrow to camp for a couple of nights. First time I’ve been able to get her out. Weather looks good so we will go for it. |

Where we went they’re. going to shut the camping area off after July for a year or two to rework it. New bath houses and refurbished camp sites. It’s state park so lake will be open and another smaller camp area. Getting wife into it requires a little extra for her comfort. But so far we’ve been good to go. |

Wow, this past weekend was a really busy and full of interesting people. I met a few really nice people and some strange ones. Friday started with a 50 amp breaker going out but a call to maintenance and it was fixed. We had two women show up to rent a tent campsite. We require you to have a vehicle and erect a tent, that's to keep homeless out, they drove in and put up a tent so they are okay at that point. The car left and returned with a kid and left again. The next morning as I was cleaning the restrooms the kid goes into one of them followed shortly by a park ranger who asked me if I had seen the kid. I pointed out which john he was in. The ranger waited and then walked away with the kid. I found out that the kids mom left the kid alone. The rangers called mom and she returned and was told not to leave the kid and was given a warning. I turns out that she had worn out her welcome with her relatives and was dumped there with the kid, a tent, enough money to rent a campsite, and all of her belongings. We ended up having the rangers evict her for violating park rules. She ended up leaving a cheap dresser full of clothes and the tent so we had to have that moved to a storage locker. We also had a bunch of single old women (Not hot.) each in their own RVs. They were in town to compete in a dog competition. But they were well behaved. By the end of our day Saturday the campground had all of the full hookup sites rented and nearly all electric sites were occupied, there were also a few tent campers. The weekend weather was also very stormy and included tornado sirens going off so we had the campers go to the storm shelter if they wanted to. A tornado did touch down very near us but nothing but rain for us. We are exhausted and having a few beers tonight! |
