With these guns being out of production and being used to shooting Mossbergs and Brownings (safety location) shotguns, is the Mossberg 500 20ga slug gun a reasonable substitute as a pump action brush gun?

Was looking at a pump gun with a red dot.

Sure if that is the route you want to fo. Are you just that used to the pump action? Did your Remy break? Awful lot of choices out there.

Savage or ruger scout or hog rifles.
350 leg or 450 bm ar15
Lever gun in 30/30, 357, 44, 45 C, 45/70
Another Remy off gun broker

20 gauge does have the benee of running buck shot...

I dont have a Remy.  Hard to get for a fair price.  Lever guns are $$$ for quality.

I don't like hunting with ARs after doing it for a few years.  Don't get me wrong, I own a few.  Played with 350/450 ARs.

Part of my reason is liberal shitholes are between where I live and where I hunt so I don't want to get jammed up.

I had nothing but trouble from 2 ruger 308 scouts.

I will grab a lever gun but only as a suppressor host.

Mossberg 20GA combo with rifled slug and vent rib barrels is $400 and change.

Define problems with 308 scouts? You are right about lever guns being spendy, they are the hotness right now. There are some jewels out there if you look. Was just looking at a thread on rebranded Winchesters and Marlins sold by Sears, JC Penny, Woolworth and other outlets back in the day. Those old levers can still be had at fair prices.

You do you. If you want to go with the 20 ga then go for it.

Mag feeding issues.  AICS real deal mags back before they made their own polymer.

If $400 is your target it will be hard to beat a pump shotgun.

The Mennonite Machine Gun has climb up to ridiculously high prices. I've been on the hunt for on OP, in either .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester, .270 Winchester, or .243 Winchester. And they're all either rusted rattle traps that aren't safe enough to fire .41 Remington Rimfire and they're still $900 or they're pristine and go for over $1,800 now.

In the end, I'm settling on a NEF single shot or sticking with my stable of bolt and lever guns.

Should be able to find a good shape pump for $550-750.  $750 should get you a really nice one.

At least here in MT $750 will easily get you a EXCELLENT 760/7600 in .30-06.

if you like them its worth paying.

@GrantS, how can I convince you to help both OP and myself out on this? I've been on the hunt for a 7600 in either .243 Win, .308 Win, .270 Win, or .30-06 Springfield. Just want a nice clean gun.

I have a Mossberg 500A combo that has the 28" vent rib and 24" slug barrel with scope.  I like the 500 safety way more than the Maverick.
