This is the first garden I've had at this property. I was lacking on options, so I plowed up a corner of a hayfield. The pic makes it look decent, but it's pretty rocky ground. Anyhow, last night I scratched it up with the tiller. Attached File Corn popped up a week ago. Squash, zucs and cucs started popping up last week. Maters are growing decent, peppers are so-so and the watermelons aren't up yet. I've got a little room left to plant, so I'm hoping to let the 3 year old pick out something off the wall just to try. |

What is the plan for the bugs? I found aphids on a tomato plant yesterday, I hosed it with Need Oil I killed a stink bug on a squash plant, there are more i'm sure, And there is a white butterfly flitting around. I've heard that it lays eggs which make worms of some sort that kill plants I'm not against going scorched earth "chemicals" but I don't want to harm the few bees that come to visit |

Bt helps with Caterpillars. Insecticidal soaps help with aphids and some other bugs, neem others. Pyrethrins are another "organic" option. Sevin is what I use if things get too bad. Figure out a preemptive spray strategy and go from there. Copper, sulphur, and daconil for fungal and some bacterial issues. |

Amazing how fast cucumber plants grow. I just transplanted them two days ago and they've already grown several inches taller. With tomatoes, I never notice them taking off for like two weeks later. |

Tomatoes, potatoes, cuke's. Green beans, bell peppers are all taking off. Corn is now starting to poke up through the dirt so hopefully in a week or so I will see if I have to replant any seeds. All in all, not to bad for not planning on having a garden this year. |

You are way ahead of me. Peas haven't even begun to flower, squash is close but not there yet. Cukes are just starting to bloom. Cabbage could be cut now. Lord, do I have potatoes. we are eating home fries for breakfast, potato and leek soup (here is the basic recipe I follow). Got almost 4 lbs off 1 plant yesterday. |

I'll start posting once i have something to post. Lots of veg and unripe fruit so far. Strawberries were a bust, the raised beds they are in have settled quite a bit making a significant humidity pocket down at the berries causing most of them to rot and a significant slug population to visit and feast. I need to pull them all out and plant hills for next year. |

Lots of rain this week, that and a wicked upper respiratory infection have kept me out of the garden. Went and looked around yesterday. Some of the corn is getting ready to flower. Squash may have been picked today, my MIL has been circling it like a vulture. I'll have to give her a call and find out. Okra is up as are the last set of peas I planted. Need to string up pole beans and pole Lima beans. Cukes are flowering. Potatoes are dieting back and getting close. Any recommendations for a rack or bin to store red potatoes. |

Its my Mother-in-Law's place, for some reason she seems to like me. Went out to check this morning, tomatoes are starting to blush, squash will start coming in tomorrow, peas are blooming. The bad news is that a pretty good storm came through last night and most of my corn is down. What do I need to do with it? Prop it back up? Leave it and hope it recovers? |

As far as the corn, the few times I TRIED to grow it the same thing happened to me. It will not stand up by itself I tried propping it up and making a jack leg support system out of rope. It worked ok I guess. It's hard to tell |
