Today I took my queen sized bed apart and put 24 milkcrates under it for storage. nice to open up 24square feet of storage space outta view.

Today, I had the day off, nothing to do so I went out to do a sneak and peak at the local gunshops. Ammo is not in great supply. My favorite shop, I've been going in and buying for 15-20 years. The owner said that he can't get squat and wholesale prices are really up. This is a shop owner who has been saying SHTF will be along any day, and has said so since I've know him. Buy ammo now . |

Well, today I gathered some muzzleloader stuff together to sell - haven't downloaded a pic yet but will put it on the EE. I'm going to use the cash for adding to an emergency fund. Also located a gun dealer in my work area that usually has decent ammo prices and guns and such - I can order on the net but some stuff I'd like to see before I buy. Put some fruit trees on order at a local garden center a friend works for - larger ones that will bear sooner. Not that much but its a little at a time. |

My map supplies came in yesterday from Ranger Joes, so now I can finish coating my maps. I also got in the Safepacker holster, I'll post some thoughts on it after I've had the chance to play around with it for a while. I work for a Honda dealership and when you sell certain cars, Honda gives you extra money...it's like a video game type thing they call 'spins'. Anyway I have been saving this money up and yesterday I won enough to have my Garand re-done. I have a woodless Dane that I am send out to be re-parked, rebarreled and re-stocked. It should with my reloads be a 1 1/2-2" gun after its all finished. |

YEsterday I bought the Garmin Fortrex 101 I've been looking at for 5-6 months. It's home is going to be my SAR/BOB pack. That way I'll always have a GPS in there. Plus it would make a nice back up for my Garmin Rino 130 that usually comes with me. As long as my wife doesn't notice it for a few months there won't be a problem (This would be the 5th Garmin GPS in our house). |

My pack rod from Cabelas finally arrived yesterday. I'm quite impressed so far as to the quality., The cool thing is that it came in a large PVC tube with a snap lid. This will make a great storage tube for my topo maps. Ah....March 1st and getting closer to getting out to do some rifle shooting at the range and some fishing. Bring on the Spring! Looks good , I was thinking about getting this set but then read where they really didn't improve the rifles accuracy much if at all by thierselves ....Please report back after you shoot it and tell what you think.....Todd |

Last night I placed an order with Sportsman's Guide. It was time for me to decide whether to re-new my Buyer's Club membership and I was inclined not to, but they made me an offer that was too good to pass up. For renewing my membership they offered twice the Buyer's Club discount on my first order, plus free shipping. So, I picked something to order that was fairly bulky...gas cans. I got 4 of the Swiss Army surplus 5-gal. "jerry cans" for $12.13 ea. and 1- NATO Gas nozzle for $5.65, for a total of 54.17 shipped. Not a bad deal, I thought, and I've been wanting some good cans for gas storage. |
| Spent about $330.00 with Nitro-Pak for 30 days' worth of Mountain House freeze dried foods. This, along with 4 cases of mil. MREs and the normal supply of foodstuffs I keep on the shelf gives me an easy 3 month food supply. Oh, and included in that order were 2 Dietz 27-hour, all-weather kerosene lanterns and extra wicks. Now to work on my water supply! |

Making my own leather holsters, belts, mag, flash light and mag holders. I have made enough things already to wash on the costs of buying from someone else. I can still make about 20 holsters and number of accessory holders. Now I may have to sell some and create my own business. Picked up 250 rounds of 9mm, 100 rounds of 38sp and 1100 rounds of 22LR. Put a new rear stock on my MBR and mounted my sling. Picked up 4 steal 20 round mags for it with two mag carriers. |
| Shifted some more silver to the vault, cleaned a SKS, bought a Taurus PT 1911, read survival blog, read urban survival, read the news, researched gold & silver prices, practiced drawing the new .45, priced ammo from CMP, practiced night driving with IR and NVGs... Nothing special. |

I ordered a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe for my BOB. Bought a new Shimano reel for my pack rod. Ordered a LumaPower M1 Cree Light for my main tactical flashlight...this is one bright sob! Bought 32 C123 battreies. I did some reading on Bird Flu, it seems that some scientists are getting together and placing bets on just where Bird Flu will arrive...current conscensious is Hong Kong late this year. Started lining up sources for makinmg elderberry extract and buying Sambucol. |

Added another 600 rds 9mm, 20 individual mountain house and a bunch of long term rice products. Plumbing up a 200 gallon water tank today. Also added a bunch of candles, lamp oil, and started augmenting my first aid kit for longer term (extra bandages, pads, meds). Gonna work on getting all this stuff better organzied this weekend. |

My report for yesterday -- I stocked up different things that will make rice more interesting. Lots of pasta sauces and things in that category. Clam sauce, spaghetti sauce, some single-serve soup containers. That should make the rice more palatable in the long term. For the first time I packed them up separately and put them in a dedicated storage container specifically for stuff I'm not going to use for anything else. I'm saving up my 2LT bottles and filling them with filtered water and stocking them up to supplement my 17LT big blue water supply. Water is my weak spot, I need to work on that one a lot. Right now I have a 30-day food supply and a three-day water supply handy. All I would need to make it a 60-day food supply is another $20 bag of rice and a couple cans of tuna or salmon. I'll feel better when I'm up to 60 days of food AND water. |

Removed old paint and corrosion down to the bare metal on the left side of my trailer. Repainted with Rust-Oleum. Refinished new 10/22 stock, to get rid of that "recycled plastic park bench" look. That doesn't have a whole lot to do with survival, but it made me feel better.  Spent six hours of heavy labor this morning, helping an acquaintance move to a new neighborhood. Now he owes me big time

Converted another of my Mil-spec Coleman lanterns to a double mantle setup using the burner assembly from a Colelman 220 lantern that I found at the flea market for eight dollars. The Mil-spec lanterns use a unique generator that is very expensive and has no provision for cleaning the jet while the lantern is running. The conversion allows the use of common 220 generators and uses the setup that allows turning a wire knob to clean the generator. The tank, frame, and quadrant globe of the Mil-spec are very heavy duty and the tank has a built in storage compartment for extra parts and mantles, and has a funnel chained to the frame. So now I have the best of both.  This is the Mil-spec with tht new double burner.  All put back together.  This is the burner assembly that is standard on the Mil-spec lantern. Note the hook generator. I also found a Coleman 200A for one dollar that I rebuilt today. The 200A is probably one of the most useful lanterns that Coleman ever produced. One mantle, small body, bright as hell, very simple to work on. Best Regards, HTG |

Let's see... Showed my new middy to my nephew and his friend; both will be making their own in the near future. Maybe not preparedness related, but I will let you decide. Went to Gander Mtn. and got an X-FL .223 resizing die and resized a few hundred rounds of brass. Picked up a one pound canister of IMR 4320 while I was there. -White Horse |

Went to the gunshow today in Houston and picked up some more reloading supplies. Got a deal on Accurate 1680, $180 for 3-8# jugs and a 20mm ammo can thrown in to boot! Bought 1700 Remington .45acp bullets(Golden Sabre), 200 more rounds of Winchester .308 to reload for my bolt gun and 5k large pistol primers. |

went the acquisitive route today--case of MH beef entrees in #10 cans, as well as more ab pads, sutures, and other medical odds and ends. on a side note, i was rather proud of myself for buying the MH instead of the digital camera that i'd need to get in on the "pics of your preps" thread. |

This is slightly funny, at least to me. When I read this tonight I thought wow, I didn't do one single preparedness thing all weekend. I was debating whether it was worth posting that I'd done nothing, and how unusual that is. Then I remembered I took my son to Cabela's on Friday afternoon (it was a snow day) because he got a gift certificate for Christmas and wanted to go. While there I picked up 5 boxes of ammo (they had Q3131A, which I hadn't seen for awhile, but the weird part was it wasn't all polished and pretty like normal) and a Mr. Buddy fuel filter. Then I remembered I stopped at the grocery store on Saturday for milk, and grabbed a 4# box of salt, a 2 lb. 12 oz. container of butter toffee peanuts and some toilet paper for storage. If there's any point here, it's that after awhile it just becomes second nature to pick up some "extra stuff" wherever you are, to the point that you don't even realize you're doing it. |

This week; - Order some orings, new lenses and a couple of new reflectors last week. They came in and I went through an rebuilt 4 four Maglights, 2 mag lights I had converted to LEDS - bought 500 rounds 0f 7.62 by 39 for 99.00 at the local gun show - bought two of the portable water filters the guy was selling on AR15.com - bought another case of wally world bottled water - inquiring about having a well dug |

Well I think I have a pretty good handle on the camping/BOB stuff. I am finalizing my decision on sleeping bags and ground pads and should place an order for themn this week. My next big decision is what to do with the money I have rolled over from my 401K, should I leave it in the Money Market funds or take the penalty and withdraw it and buy PM's....don't know right now. I am reorganizing my storage buckets. I am usiing 5 gal buckets with gamma lids for rice/beans and pasta meals. What I am going to do is to take the rice/beans and repackage them with my vacuum sealer. I'm ordering some 5 gal mylar bags and O2 absorbers and will bulk pack them and seal them up. Should last for many years this way. I need to place another order with Georgia Arms for more .45 ammo |
Roll it over to something... I'd hate to be eating 30 year old mountain house when I retire 'cause I didn't save... I think prepping is a balance.. But I'm sure some here will tell you to clear it out since there won't be any such thing in n years. |
