View Quote I have the Innova PTT system and went with comm gear supply. Ended up running their cable and have one for my Phone I can also connect to my Comtac V. The Hirose is great when spending a lot of money on your cables since it is future proof. And easier to get adapters when you upgrade antennas. |

Interesting, I’ve been using disco32 but this would save money moving between radios.

My group has a bunch of anytime 878 radios that are really solid. I'm waiting for someone to do a cdma version with encryption

Hopping is no longer an affective method to avoid jamming (SDRs with wide ears) and was essentially never a way to obscure your signal or signal source.
The other day I was doing POTA and some ass hat was jamming me on 17m with his cw key. I advised people I was QSY to 12m……. Go to 12m, call CQ, get jammed, say brb going to piss in the bushes, I go right back to 17m where I am still spotted. Jammer mystified by my fake hopping. Finish 17m in peace. |

Amateur spread spectrum is only allowed on 902 and above (IIRC). LMR can't really do spread spectrum. Not sure where you're going to find a market for a CDMA handheld. |

According to the extra test pool I studied for, spread spectrum is allocated for 222Mhz and above.

It's too bad that FCC Washington doesn't know about most of the import handheld radios not meeting the transmitter spurious emissions specification. I would think that some of those guys would watch youtube and notice the outrage!

I don't think it's IP67 rated though, is it??
|
|
|
It is advertised as IP67, but I wouldn't go swimming with a sub $200 radio. The *.mil guys pay a lot more for handheld radios to go into battle. I think the HD2 covers most of the bases for a SHTF grid down handheld radio IF it had a AA or CR123 battery case to augment the LI-ON packs. It does have tactical encryption, the splash proof plus rating, and affordable accessories.
Why can't some of the 3D print guys make an adapter to hold the battery clips for AA and CR123 to the HD2. I would buy two adapters and two radios. |

I have spent multiple days in the rain with a TYT-390, and dropped them multiple times…….. still working,
Have one running OpenGD77 for Ham and a PLUS running business band. No issues. Of course, would be more goooooder if it had a secure/sealed mic jack. The charging cradle works off 12V……. So, field charging is not a hard fix and I have four batteries. Encryption works on text…… which is apparent when you forget to load the key to a radio. Lol |

I like the OpenGD77 because it makes the radio more friendly from the front panel. I have zero issues using the TYT as a 2m/70c ham FM radio with that firmware……. But stock it is a real pain. As a bonus, i can do digital voice,
I just have a second one for non ham radio. It is all programmed from CPS like a commercial radio. |

I wish radio companies would just put the USB C on the radio mating surface of the battery, most people are going to charge while using another battery and it would help with dust/water ingress. Just let me take the battery off and charge it. |

View Quote I use mine for ham radio only, so since I am not prepping, LARPing, or using it for business it's fine for me. It's a sub hundred dollar radio that does the thing without breaking the bank account. If I needed more I would buy a commercial radio like a Motorola or similar. |

If prepping and larping gets people out of the basement and learning new things, then I can only see it as a positive force.
Hell, if I could legally buy ARs with happy switches at the same cost, but was not allowed to flip them on, I still would. |
