like the subject says, I am looking for ammo suggestions.  I know the short AR is less than ideal but the hogs are small and will be close.
Thanks

64 gr soft point?   Works for the FFBI in testing and real world.  Sure, dogs and people aren’t hogs, but some act like them.

Or pick some 69/75 gr hunting round.

55gr FMJ has killed plenty of hogs.

Less than 100? 55gr FMJ isn't likely to frag if it's getting close to 100, but that doesn't mean it won't kill. If I was keeping things cheap I'd likely use whatever soft points I could find. Otherwise gold dot/fusion/TMK/ELD-M will perform well even past 100.

My gun likes 55gr Barnes TTSX and the hogs melt.

Aim high/forward of shoulder, standard 55gr. FMJ will certainly get it done.

Gold Dots of 64 or 75gr

Fusion 64gr

You'll need to look up the expansion of Win Silvertip or Defender at 1800-2100fps,

After action update:
All three of my boys took hogs at less than 100 yds.  Two were instant drops, one in the ear, one in the heart and one was actually closer than expected and the ear shot hit too low requiring a follow up shot when it looked back at us.  Follow up shot was through the forehead with a slight angle.  We found the slug just under then skin behind the opposite shoulder.  In the future I won't hesitate to shoot more with this set up.

What did you end up using?

5.56 spec 55 gr SP or 50 gr TSX works wonders from that distance.

SIG SAUER .223 Remington; Bullet Weight: 55 grain; Bullet Style: Soft Point; Muzzle Velocity: 3,240 FPS; Muzzle Energy: 1,280 ft.-lbs.

It got some expansion but not a ton with good penetration and retention.

55gr Tula.  I'm not expending premium ammo on hogs.

I appreciate the suggestions and after the hunt I am inclined to agree that any cheap fmj in the ear hole will work well.
