Google image search: hellbenders guide to ultimate AR

All of the pics are up, but someone will need to use a new image sharing service to add them back in the thread.

Thanks!

This shit pisses me off.  Ruined all the information across the internet.

Okay, I downloaded and saved the images I could find on Google Images. I don't know if I have all of them, and I don't think I could put them in the correct order, but I could dump them here if the OP or someone else wants to use them to recreate the tutorial.

I can do it.  I just noticed the images are toast, which we'll need to fix.

Good link.  I subscribed.  Seems very better than your average rag contributor nowadays.   I also posted this question:   Be very interested if you've any exposure to the AERO M5E1 or the M4E1 integral free-float hand guard fixture which changes the barrel nut from female to male threads. If so, I wonder does it change your recommendations for bedding. I can see that it definitely hinders the way you recommend finding the sweet spot of your barrel nut.

One other thing I wish I could figure out... all the the pictures in the OPs thread from photobucket are blurry for me.   Would sure like to follow his recommendation but the pictures seem near-essential since I'm working on my first build.

@JoshAston

caught a typo in the "fixed" version, minor, sure you meant "mag" catch instead of "bolt" catch, quoted below:

This post concerns the DPMS LR series rifles only.

DPMS decided to use the standard AR15 bolt catch and button on the LR series rifle, even though the receiver is almost
1/4" wider at this point.

excellent reference work, by the way.

question:  on part 12, regarding the barrel shim, why do you orient the shim seam on the side, left or right, why not top or bottom? as long as there's no significant gap, just wondering.  I can see if there's a gap, that would allow wobble in the vertical plane, but if no gap...?

Because of gravity.  It will pull "downward" on the barrel.  If there is a slight gap it could create a void that would allow the barrel to "tilt".

With even material on the top and bottom you take the "play" out.

That's the theory anyway

i use the "pi*diameter" formula to calculate the length to wrap around the barrel extension. comes out pretty exact, damn near a butt joint at the seam, if there's a gap, it's less than 1/64".  So, I think I'm ok with the seam at the top.  makes the pin cut-out easier.  yeah, my build, my call.  YMMV.

appreciate the explanation, makes sense, thanks.

I just thermal fit a Wilson 18"  urban super sniper (that name...) to a BCM upper...instead of swimming it into a wilson upper.

Is shimming better?
