Much nicer down here in Texas than it is in New York. Gathering some important data for next weekend. Found a privately-owned Ranch with a range that goes out to 1060yds

Few pics of my current Build, it's going to be a "late" M40A3, as "Spec" as possible with exceptions for the Serial Nr Range, barrel (availability here in Germany), Stock Design (One Screw vs Two Screw, also availability) and the SIMRAD Cap (legal Reasons).

"Inspirations"

(Second Rifle from the front)

Parts, Badger Recoil Lug, Rings and Slot Base, Timney Trigger, M5 Bottom Metal, Harris S-BRM with KMW Podlock, TIS Sling, McMillan Scope and Muzzle Protector and shirt. The tan and olive ammo pouches are made by a friend.

I was lucky enough to find a real weapons book for a A3, which will get filled when the rifle is done.

S&B PM II 3-12x40, MTC Turrets, ... The one in the back is a Tac Vector Siegfried, a "clone" (currently sits on my airsoft M40)

Stock, took forever to get this thing over here, almost 7 Months...

Currently everything is at my gunsmith, he has sourced a Rem 700 SA and a Heym .308 Barrel (24" from Recoil Lug, 1-10" rifling, as I said the only "real" deviation from the original build).
Latest news was that the rifle was sent to the proofhouse, I'll hopefully have it at the End of February or beginning of March.
I still have the PGW EFR incoming, it has been mailed almost a month ago.

Edit: How do I embed my pics? I'm already using the IMG Tags... In the editor everything looks fine.

I have some .300 mag ammo I want to burn, but dont really have anywhere accessible for .300 mag ranges.
Any TX members want to get together for some clone shooting somewhere the first weekend in March?

Damn, I graduate Feb 23rd, and hop on a plane back to NY after that. I was invited to a privately owned ranch with a range out to 1060yds in Utopia, TX. They don't advertise, kinda have to know someone to shoot there...but after I go I can then recommend you if you are interested

Utopia is a bit too far for a day trip or so (east tx)

They aren't being sold anywhere. About 15 of these were made, the rest are owned by Remington and the military. This is probably the only one in private hands.

I know they used to use Redfield before switching over to OK Weber/RPA sight bases. I'm in TX so I don't have my 24 clone with me, but I had the rear sight baggy in my range bag if that helps. I know you needed the front, but you may be able to piece the puzzle together. Good luck.
PS: The M24 flash hider works with my front sight, and the comp iron sights fit right on.

Can any of you help me source information on the MK 15 Mod 0? It's the designation the TAC-50 was given in the US military. To my knowledge it was and probably still is in use exclusively by SEAL's. There's almost no information of it online, after multiple hours of searching I only found 6 photos of it. You can tell the difference between a Mk 15 from a Canadian or standard TAC-50 by a NV mount. I've tried my best to identify this rail but I couldn't come up with anything maybe it's proprietary? Want to come up with a build guide for it so it can start being cloned.

There really isn't a way to clone this rifle, the action was made by McMillan and they sold off the firearms protion of their business years ago, so no more are being made by them.  Your 2 choices is to buy a civilian production Tac-50 or buy a Tac-50 target rifle and drop it into the correct stock (both of which can be found on gunbroker)  Also, there are a lot more than 6 pics of this rifle online!

Hmm I never got the news that McMillan split up, not really a big deal anyways since the TAC-50 currently in production is the one with the long stock so is inaccurate for the clone. As you said I'd need to get a used one so I can have the short stock but I wonder which color the stock was from Mcmillan? Damn SEAL's and their rattlecans "picture #4 I posted may indicate standard tan". I appreciate the pictures but almost all of them are "C15" Canadian rifles and the last one is a Turkish variant. I'm looking exclusively for details on the Mk 15 used by the SEAL's. Every TAC-50 I've seen in a SEAL's hands has that NV mount that looks like it's attached to the bipod area and the bolt is coated black.

That Turkish TAC-50 does look pretty badass though with that long stock and MIRS mount.

Not every Mk15 used by SEALs had the night vision mount. Look at the pics I posted, they are a mix of Canadian and SEALs (last pic is Turkish, I just wanted to show how all of these rifle are pretty much the same except for stock color, scope and mount). In the pic where the SEALs are showing some professional sports ball players the rifles, there is no mount for night vision.  This appears to be a "some rifles, not all rifles" situation in regards to the mount.  I have no idea what that mount is, but it's not necessarily needed for a clone correct Mk15.  Also, the old Fisher muzzle brake is probably impossible to find by itself, so not sure how clone correct a civilian can get if the correct part can't be found.  Hopefully you've got a build going with a lot of pics to post!

SEALs, no night vision mount

USMCSGT0331,

It does seem there are 3-4 pictures out there with US military personal using a TAC-50 with no NV mount, but to me the NV version just looks better, and seems to be the more common version. I'm not sure your expertise but you seem to have some connections inside the industry. Do you know if the gunsmiths who build and maintain these guns for groups like the SEAL's manufacture custom parts such as that NV mount, or do you think they would always outsource it? It seems they were used around the same time as MK13 Mod 0's and 5's so maybe they went through Alan Brown and he could help me build one. If the mounts aren't available on the market I guess I'll just have to wait and hope that the stocks and mounts get sold off like the Mk 13 mod 0 stocks were. And thanks for mentioning the muzzle brake, I just now noticed that it's different than the C15 and civilian TAC-50. Yet anther unidentified very obscure part I'll need to find. Is this the Fisher brake you were mentioning? https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/739316080 They do look similar however the Mk 15 brake looks a little more modernized and slanted to me. If I ever do start this build I'd definitely document it! However it's looking like most of the parts are made in house unobtainium.

If there's anyone on this site who knows about these rifle, it's usnguns (who is just above this post^^^). Hopefully he can tell us what night vision mount that is, and if it's a rare part, I hope he messages us with info before posting it! I also wouldn't rely on getting anything from Crane, especially if this rifle is still in use.

"Do you think they would always outsource it?", yes, Crane outsourced 99% to 100% of the Mk15 pieces.  The receiver and stock are made by McMillan, the barrel is Lilja, scope and rings are NightForce (SEAL issue). The trigger (Remington?), muzzle brake (Fisher and/or McMillan?), bipod (McMillan?) and magazines aren't made by Crane. Night vision mount is pretty much the only piece in question that could possibly be made at Crane, but I highly doubt that it was.

I have absolutely zero expertise with this specific platform, I'm just going on what I see and what I've asked a few certain friends.  I'm not sure if Alan knows something about these guns, but I'll ask him the next time I talk to him.  If you need Mk13 clones, he's definitely the guy to build them! I also saw your thread on Sniper's Hide, shoot me an email and I'll send you some info on the Mk13 series.

As for the gunbroker auction you posted, the brake might be the one or at least similar.  I've never seen one in person and a SEAL buddy told me that they were pretty much unobtainium.  Would be kinda crazy to buy a $4k rifle just for the brake, but if that's what it takes to be clone correct......

Damn, I really want one of these rifles now!

I'm on leave for a couple weeks, but when I get back I can get into the pubs and see what I can dig up on the NV mount.  There is also a Mk15 Mod 1 out there, too.  It uses a chassis system.

Here's a Mk15 Mod 0 in Helmand from 2012.  Navy EOD.

Awesome, thank you so much for this! While you're at it see if you can source any details on the brake, it's a huge piece of the puzzle too.

First time hearing of the Mod 1's existence. Is it in service yet?

I found a really good picture of a Mk15 on snipershide from 2009. It pretty much confirms that the Mk 15 bolts were black compared to the standard stainless finish. Also I don't know if it's just me but the barrels on the Mk 15's look thicker than standard TAC-50's.

Mod 7 is where it's at, you'll love the folding stock plus it comes with rails so no mount to buy if you plan on using a clip on.

You might also want to consider a Mk13 Mod 0 with original SEAL used parts and built by Alan Brown.  I have original/certified Mod 0 stocks with MIRS rails available if you need one, just shoot me an email if you're interested.  Roughly the same price as a Mod 5 AICS chassis, but comes with more parts and has actual military provenance.

Hopefully Alan is close to finishing my Mod 0 build!

This is another great option, I love my Mod 7!  The only downside is the Stiller receiver, S&B PSR scope, Surefire brake and XTSP trigger add a bit more $$$$ to the build.

Since when have we been using the Cheytac M200? I've heard multiple times the US has never had any interest in it.

Actually, Otto was able to supply both the front and rear sight bases, but thanks for the offer!

That’s pretty cool, I had no idea the US was using the Cadex chassis system for their 50s.  I’ve heard the CF uses them on our C-15s, but I have yet to see any photos of it in the wild.

My PGW LRT-3 in the Cadex chassis:

I had a chance to pick up a Tac50 in the Cadex chassis, but it was a bit pricy for a used rifle and it was unclear who assembled.  I also didn’t have $8,500 immediately handy so I had to pass on it.

A few months later, we were doing some renos on the house and I concocted this brilliant idea to hide the cost of the PGW LRT-3 in the renos (told my wife that PGW was a flooring company out of Winnipeg, MB).  Plus PGW offered an unofficial LE/MIL discount that saved me a ton of money so I jumped on it.

If I recall correctly, Cadex helped Remington in designing the RACS for the M2010 and MSR rifles.  I’ve always wanted an MSR, but there was no way I would be able to get one in Canada.  The Remington M24 only just came into Canada last year, and from what I hear, I got one of only ten examples, bare bones rifle only, no deployment kit, not even front or rear sight bases, bipod or sling.

Anyway, my 50 is nowhere near clone correct by any means, but at least the chassis and the round are correct :)

99% sure that means the actions on the MK15 are black iron nitrided instead of the normal np3 finish since that's how the MK13 mod 7 chassis are treated vs the untreated predator actions.

Ditto on the MK15 Mod1 in the wild, you see a few pics of tac 50s in cadex chassis' on Mcmillans' facebook page, but nothing on actual service rifles. would love to know more about the operators manual

Top to bottom:
Remington MSR prototype, just need Bartlein to spin up a barrel for it
Remington M40A6 RACS chassis, have the rest of the parts, hopefully built soon
Remington CSR prototype

I don't think there is a single MSR in Kanadastan.  Not even sure there are any RACS chassis up here.  Since I first saw photos of it, I wanted one, but pretty much gave up on the idea of every being able to get one so I ended up going with a regular 700, Bartlein barrel and Cadex chassis:

Nice! I ordered that Pachmyer pad last week for my mk13. That 1/4 inch solid rubber pad sucked! Rattled my brain around shooting that rifle, and after 20-30rnds the headache starts creeping in. Very excited to get it on and shoot with it. You gonna contour your barrel for a mk11 can? I don't think I've ever seen one with a can in the wild besides Kyle's. Anyone know if that was just something that was done for him, or was that actually used with mod0's?

Shot out to 1060yds at a ranch in TX last weekend. Too easy with this rifle.

If our guys are, it's only the squirrels that have them so far. When I had a chance to visit the western Battalions, they still had the old stocks.

Finally the last part came in, directly from PGW in Canada.
I had to pick it up from the customs office, the guy there made quite a facial expression when I said I'd wanted to declare a weapons part
(Only had to show my weapons license, completely fine after that . Weapons parts are not quite usual here in Germany.)

So, naturally the PGW Rail went directly to my gunsmith, together with an installation blueprint courtesy of Badger Ordnance.

If everything goes right, I should have the complete rifle in about 3 weeks.

Fielded to USSOCOM, not sure of the timeline but I can't imagine it's been long.

That's probably pretty expensive?  When I asked Ross about the accessory rail for my Timberwolf, he said it was going to be about $1,000.

Yeah, it's probably just guys from the Hill....by the time everyone else gets the chassis (if they get it), there will probably be plenty of pics floating around by then.

You guys can probably help me out here. For a spotting scope...Vortex Razor 27-60x85 or Night Force 20-60x80?? I looked through both, and the Nighforce seems slightly crisper. Both really nice tho. Vortex has a removable eyepiece for more options and has an amazing warranty. With their 40% off msrp for Mil/LEO...it will come to a little more than $100 cheaper than Nightforces Mil discount. Thanks in advance
