I am new to rangfinders. Do people make them where you can program in your specific load data and it will tell you your dope as it ranges? I dont want anything complicated. I would rather do all the setup at home. Then have it simple display a range and a dial reading. Something like that.

Its not necessary but it just sounds like such a simple idea. Do all the programing at home. In the feild range, it tells you "638 yrds" "-50" or better yet "dial xxx moa".

I've been looking at laser rangefinders too.  Kit Badger reviewed the Sig Kilo5k (https://youtu.be/3gx5s0JwNbg?si=CBm5yhvIc4DKm53K). It has what you are looking for and he seemed to like it.  It's just under $600. I've been looking for something closer to $3-400 with the ballistic calc, but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look at those. I admit i might just stick to a balistic card and a basic range finder for the cost. But i appreciate it.

It has to be such a simple program. I assume in a few years even the cheap ones will have it. But what do i know.

This has Ballistic group cartridges that might get you close.
I have this one but I haven’t figured out the ballistic chart function. It’s supposed to use G1 & G7 data. I guess I’m old I still carry cards or use my ballistic app on my phone.

I also need simple. I know that under stress my mind will want simple like a card or quick chart in my scope cap. So i might just stay old school.

If i get off my butt i could order a CDS dial and for my particular load. But I would want to test the load at a lot more ranges.

Well I played with the Sig app and the sig range finder. It worked but I think I like the ballistic apps better. I guess if you had your range finder paired with their scope it might be alright. But it spit out some data that was a little bit off from Stelok that I know is verified. I might figure out later how to adjust it, but at the moment I’m still trusting Strelok or Shooter app. They both seem to work well. If I was you. If I ordered a turret I would want the Mil’ or moa around the bottom so as altitude and weather changes you could fall back on your ballistic app.

I use a sig Sauer Kilo 3000 BDX and couple it with a Kestral 5700 elite with Applied Ballistics.  Mount the binos on a tripod. Binos linked to kestral. Spot target range target. Ballistic solution comes from the Kestral and is shown in the Binos. That setup can run you a couple thousand.

Or just get a 15 dollar phone app and a scope with a decent reticle. Range with the reticule

I run an old sig kilo 2400, it is a range finder with both a weather center on board as well as AB ballistics...I have had zero issues getting cold bore hits out to 2000 yards with it, haven't shot any further with it yet..worth every penny...

Here I used it for a cold bore hit on a beer can one morning after my buddy said I couldn't hit it the night before around the fire drinking...

Here is what the screen shows when ranging stuff...

First screen gives you the range and the angle...

Attachment Attached File

Second screen gives you your elevation dial up...Third screen gives you windage if you use it..I call my own windage so I don't use it...

Attachment Attached File

You can also pull it up on your phone...

It looks like i might really need to look into some of these apps.

For now i am going to stick with basic raingfinder info and a dope card. Right now i am just using it for hunting. I know for me simple will work the best under stress. Alao ranges should be well under 500 yards hunting. So only about a half dozen holds to know for elevation.

My wife did buy me a Vortex Razor rangefinder ( good wife) for xmas and my upcomming hunt. After the hunt i will look at the more advanced features and using a app.
The hunt is in a few weeks. I have learned the hard way not to make changes or try to learn a new system before a big event.
