| Was thinking on getting a ruger precision rifle. One are they a good rifle and two what would you put on it for a scope to 200 yds? Price is pretty good on these around 5-600$ |

Vortex Venom 5.5-25 x56. 34 mm Warne Mountain Tech high rings . Or a fixed power 16 x SWFA Super Sniper 30 mm ( both are target scopes not ideal hunting scopes like a 2.5-10) I have not had that rifle. Looks like a nice rifle, I would probably pick a CZ or Tikka for a precision target 22, or at least read reviews from current owners. 22 can be very accurate with sub-sonic ammo. You might test several ammo types. |

OP, what is your budget? That critical piece of info is missing from your question. Do you want a $100 scope, a $500 scope, a $1k scope? Does the budget value include a base and rings or just the scope? Also, what range of magnification do you want? Hunting scopes are usually lower powers (3-9X), whereas target scopes are very high power (25X is common). Without that info, this is kind of a waste. |

I own one, there is nothing precision about them. Buy the Tikka or the CZ please! The Bergara rifles are another option I considered. It’s all show and no go. The stocks just aren’t that good. The rifle feed geometry is poor enough that your lead bullets get damaged during feeding and chambering. As far as the scopes I had a Bushnell Match Pro ED I think they called it. It’s actually a pretty good scope for the money. My 90’s vintage 10-22 with a Nikon 3-9 rimfire scope outshoots the Ruger Precision Rimfire. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

I find it odd that no one recommends Anschutz. Seemingly, it isn't a "buy America" thing, either. Anyone have any idea why Anschutz is no longer recommended by anyone? The scope is an Athlon Midas 6-24X 50 mm which focuses down to 10 yards (On sale at Optics Planet for $440). The rifle is an Anschutz barreled action in a Competition Shooting Stuff stock.

What size targets are you trying to hit at 200 yards? That will drive some of the decisions on scope magnification. For ARA matches at 50 yards, I bought a Athlon 10-40x56, on CZ 457 varmint. It’s very clear and it’s great to be able to see the holes in the target to judge the wind. |

Limited availability,high cost, and limited aftermarket and parts replacement options probably hold them back. I shot collegiate Olympic style matches in the 80’s and even tried out for the Olympic team. Back then ( and now) all the top precision shooters in that style of shooting were using anschutz People looking for repeaters with a less than insane price point, with affordable parts and aftermarket options here in the states won’t be looking at anschutz The ruger precision is a dumpster fire- some are decent, most won’t cut the mustard as a precision rifle. |
