S&B Reticle and Magnification for 1000 yard rifle

Am planning on mounting a S&B PMII scope on a FN Ballista. At 1000+ yards, what magnification and reticle would you guys suggest? This is new territory for me, so thanks in advance!

I have the 5-25-56 PMII/LP P4L reticle, the thickness of it is a bit more than the US Optics Mil Gap, if I was going to do it again I'd get the P4F (fine) reticle, that way it won't obscure smaller targets at longer distances.

ETA. 5-25 is what I need for distances extending past 1000.

Thanks, I didn't even think about reticle thickness! Any thoughts on other reticles such as H59 or Tremor3?

Was planning on a 5-25x scope too.

How far past 1000 you looking to go? Also do you plan to use the reticle for holds?

When I was running the 5-25 I used the P4F and the H2CMR. I liked the H2CMR much better. Never been a fan of the Horus reticles.

I think the max range is 1200. Not sure about using the reticle for holds; this is all somewhat new to me. Really appreciate the input!

1200 isn't too bad. Any of the reticles will do it and the scope has plenty of elevation but make sure to actually look though and possibly shoot with any of ththe Horus reticles before buying.

Cross hairs are king at distance. A small (!) dot works well too. Complex reticles are really troublesome at 1K plus. You have enough other crap to pay attention to that busy reticles can really mess with your process.

I have the Steiner 5-25 x 56 with H59 on my Ballista and like it so far. Have the PMII with Tremor 2 on my Scar 20 and like it as well. Msr reticles are also nice.

Back in January of ‘06, I went with the P4 on my 5-25 PMII and I’m fine with it out to 1000 yards.

Had a Burris 4-20 XTR II on a 338. No problems out to 1000 yards. But to future proof for long distance, might bump that up.

Shot the Ballista to a mile this past weekend. Steiner 25x plenty of power and H59 reticle works for me as well.
