This is a 338 Lapua at 600 yards. It looks to me like the bullet is not flying correctly, and it was not accurate at all. I shot a couple 3/4 or better groups at 100 on paper, and then went to 600. 300 smk's going 2660. Also, this thing shoots way faster than it should for the charge according to Hodgdon manual. Any insight? Thanks.Attached File Attached File |

How the splash looks on the target is more a function of the angle of the hit. Nothing to see here. If accuracy is not where you want it you need to step back and start looking at possible areas of improvement. Load is hot? Hot are you determining that? Have you tested seating depths? Have you found a plateau in a ladder? New brass? 1x brass? Have you tried any other bullets? What distances have you tested at? FWIW, my 220 Berger load was shooting in the .3’s at 100. I went to 1,600 and it was a different story. I put it on paper at 1,000 and It showed me a smaller picture of what was happening at longer ranges. I did a seating depth test and things tightened up with a change in seating depth. Good luck. |
