Hello folks,

As the title says, I am wanting to get some Stainless steel shim stock so i can accurize some ar's as I tear them down and etc...   I have read 50 threads about this, and they say stainless steel and the sizes, but never once mention the grade, and instead of just using any type and finding out that was the wrong grade to use after the fact, I figured i would ask you kind folks here...

So, please let me know if it does not matter, or if it needs to be a certain grade because of temp or heat or galvanic corrosion or etc....I do not know, and ran out of things to read to find out....

Thanks...

It shouldn't matter. Most SS shim stock is made from 301, 18-8(304), 316, or 17-7. All are good steels and applicable.
