Title says it all haha. I'm looking to build up another ar10. Last one was a .308 with a 24in barrel. I'm intrigued on doing a 14-16in but not sure what chamber I want to use. It's just a range gun so no true practical applications hunting or home defense. Was thinking about 6.5 but that shines at 800yd and .338 fed is annoying to find Just looking for opinions and if y'all shortened a ar10. |

I built a 12.5" as a pistol many years ago and recently SBR'ed it. Lots of barrels out there. BA, KAK, etc. I used a PSA DPMS reciever set as the base.

They are pinned and welded so not SBR's but PSA has short barreled SABRE's in both 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. I really want a 14.5 Creedmoor eventually. For 5.56 AR’s it’s cheap to build a second upper if you want. An upper for a large frame AR is much more expensive…hence a barrel being “cheaper”. |

For your intended use, I disagree that the 6.5C would be "better". Fact is, in most cases/rifles, you can't push the 6.5C in a gas gun like you can a bolt gun thus the true potential really isn't available at longer ranges where the 6.5C apparently shines. "Better" is extremely subjective IMO and in a lot of cases the advantage is minimal and rarely appreciated in actual use by most shooters. I gave up on the 6.5C in a gas gun because my best loads were killing brass... I've seen posts here in the past from guys that echoed my own experiences. I'M NOT SAYING ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER... but if you don't hand load it's a wash IMO anyway. If you want something "different" in a AR10 package, the .338 Federal and the .358 Winchester come to mind as does a 7mm-08... I have all three in the AR10 platform as well as a .243. I hand load which makes acquiring ammo a non-issue. So far all four "different" chamberings have been GTG on brass and functioning and accuracy excellent. This is my 16" .358 Winchester. It has a Wilson Combat 16" barrel and right off the bat at the reloading bench I was at MOA and 100% functioning... can't ask for anything better than that. This thing rocks and it fun to shoot and I think she looks sexy.   |

It doesn't need to b pushed hard to surpass .308 at range. For up to 800 yards? .308 will certainly work. 7mm-08 would be fun. Doesn't really do anything 6.5 or .308 doesn't do, but it's still a nice round. If I ever get the itch for another large-frame AR, 7mm's it. .358? YES! For the Southeast and other densely forested environs, .358 makes a good deal of sense. |

The MR762 A4 13" Assaulter is a good one. We had it out for the first time the other day and we were hitting steel at 300 yards with a EXPS-3 w/5x magnifier. Has adjustable gas block for Normal and Suppressed, very fun gun. MR762 A4 13" Assaulter pistol w/KAC QDC suppressor. June/2026 |

I did a 308 12.5 SBR on Aero Precision parts with a Rainier Arms barrel. I really like it and plan to hunt with it this year. I have been usinga 16in 6.5 Grendel, which has been great. I kind of want to do a 12.5 Grendel SBR too, I just started a 12.5 5.56 SBR with a Noveske barrell, I might make a Grendel upper to go with it. Attached File |
