I was wondering if I could get some insight as to the real world differences between the two reticle options on the 4.5 competition nightforce? I realize the circle of the reticle is different in size and was wondering how that changes the image on target. Is there an advantage to one vs the other, or is it just preference?

Yes, they are both very well thought out designs, and it comes down to preference.

If at all possible, go have a look through each type. You will probably find that either one will work once you practice with it a little.

The difference between the two is very similar to the age old trade-off in the "ring gap" of typical smallbore or Palma match sights.

Clearly there are enough Distinguished and HM using both large and small "gaps" with match sights, so the scope reticle gap to the aiming black will end up being the same debate.

I had the first design, but folks who jumped in later ordered the second one, so when I got to try both I decided to stick with the first one when I ordered another scope.
