I've never seen MID-SOUTH standards specifically made public before:

GBRS GROUP | MID-SOUTH OPERATOR STANDARDS

They had a impact on CSAT standards and Squadron Drills.

THANK YOU for doing that.  This is useful info, but I don't have the patience for those poser clowns.

Good stuff, will shoot some of this soon.

Ended up going shooting late yesterday, so included this in the agenda.

At 5 yards, w/ helmet PC & batt belt on.

Pistol now: 9.64, clean

Rifle low ready: .86

Rifle high ready: had a hard time with this one, I guess because I  don't practice enough from it.  Got a 1.23, 1.21, then finally a .95, so FAIL.

Rifle combat reload: 4.53, clean.

Transition drill:  2.79, clean.  I work out of a 7390 now, and it's like greased lightning.

Check drill: 8.54, clean

Pistol El Prez: 9.10, clean

Rifle El Prez: 9.96, clean.

I've shot El Prez with rifle & pistol before, but always at the 10 yards originally specified in the drill.  For pistol I'm usually in the 10+ second range, and rifle 11+ seconds.

Cutting the range in half allowed me to speed up just a little, which was gratifying.

I'm surprised it's mandated at 5 yards, with 7 % 10 being optional.  10 for everything would be alot more challenging.

Keep working the Rifle High Ready.  I didn't get it until the second range day after a lot of reps.

Absolutely.  It IS slower, but a while back Mr. Gurwitch had proposed they were about the same.

I went on to try this & compared singles from both high & low, and the timer showed it was a wash, he was right.

But I did mine in 12"x20" steel.  10 or 12 yards......doing it on a small target, even at 5 yards, seemed to be what threw me off.

My fastest first shot from low ready yesterday was .78.

ETA: forgot to add, primary was an 11.5" w/ 5 MOA RDS, pistol a G19 w/ optic.

High ready isn't what I usually do for reasons as can be seen with the second man here clearly having a massive blind spot entering the room:

But my rifle isn't always on my shoulder and it makes a lot of sense to practice from a position I might be in after movement.

Absolutely.  When I run with the rifle, I automatically go to high ready, as it's more stable and keeps it close to center of gravity.  Also if you fall or go down fast, your muzzle's not gulping a chunk of dirt.

I always trained with NSW instructors so was taught high port. When I went to Camp McCrady for predeployment training, I was told by Army instructors, that's not authorized anywhere on this base, point the muzzle down.

Here's what I have:

Mid-South Institute Operator Standards

Pistol
El Prez – Set up with one round in chamber and five rounds in magazine with a full magazine to reload with. Start with back to a set of three targets, pistol in holster. At buzzer turn 180 degrees, engage Rectangles on targets. Two shots each on all three targets then do a combat reload and re-engage all three rectangles with two shots each. All 12 shots must be hits and done in 11 seconds or less.

NOW Drill (Targets A, B, C & D) – Set up for drill with one round in chamber and full fifteen rounds in magazine, also have a magazine to reload with. Start from the holster, at the buzzer, draw and fire 16 rounds in one 8” circle then reload and re-engage target for one more shot. All 17 rounds must be hits and done in 11 seconds or less.

Transition Drill – Start with Rifle in either high or low ready position. Engage big rectangle in center of target, safe rifle and immediately transition to Pistol for one shot. Both shots need to be hits in rectangle and done in 3.5 seconds or less.

Rifle
Low Ready (Target 4) – Start with Rifle in low ready position. At buzzer fire one shot at the designated “Low Ready” target. Must be done in 1.1 seconds or less.

High Ready (Target 1) – Start with rifle in high ready position. At buzzer fire one shot at designated “High Ready” target. Must be done in 1.1 seconds or less.

Combat Reload (Targets 2 or 3) – Start in either high or low ready position with one round in the chamber and an empty magazine the Rifle. At buzzer engage the designated combat reload target and then reload and engage for one more shot. You do not have to manipulate the safety and you may set up your magazine pouches up for a quick reload. (i.e. tuck in the flap) Must be done in 6 seconds or less.   Use 1 Target (Dot) only.

Check Drill (Targets 5 or 6) – Start in either ready position with one round in the chamber of the Rifle, an empty magazine in the rifle and a loaded Pistol. At the buzzer, engage the designated check drill target with the Rifle, apply the safety, transition to the Pistol for one shot, then bring the Rifle back up, reload it and fire one more shot. All 3 shots must be done in 11 seconds or less.  Use 1 Target (Dot) only.

El Prez – Set up with one round in chamber of Rifle and five rounds in magazine with a spare magazine to reload with. Start with back to targets. At the buzzer turn 180 degrees, engage Rectangles on targets. Two shots each on all three targets then do a combat reload and re-engage all three rectangles with two shots each. All 12 shots must be hits and done in 11 seconds or less.

* All Drills are shot from the 5 yd. Line
* Targets are Aprox. 3 ½ ft. Apart

Thanks all for posting this and the breakdown of the COF.

My organization sends very select instructors to their training and unfortunately while I was ID’d as a candidate I never got the opportunity to go, but those that did absolutely raved about it, particularly the extremely humbling aspect of it, and would integrate parts of their training and COFs into our (instructor) training.  I got the very distinct impression that the training was legit AF and extremely pertinent.

The overwhelmingly majority of LE/MIL quals/COFs do not remotely come close to taxing, never mind near maxing out, both marksmanship and manipulation skills the way the Mid South program does.
