| I have a Remington 11 87 Premier Skeet shotgun that is gathering dust in my safe. I am contemplating replacing the barrel with a short rifle sighted version. I have heard conflicting information about the reliability of 11 87s with short barrels. Do any of you guys have any direct experience with 11 87s with a short barrel. What was your experience? I am going to take a shotgun class at the end of this month at Tac Pro Shooting Center and I may take the 11 87 along with my old standby 870. |

The 11-87 is a great gun, but may not perform reliably with 2 3/4" shells that are not hot enough. I had a choice between the two and chose the regular 1100 riot as I don't plan on shooting 3" for home defense. If your gun has cycling issues you can plug one of the gas holes and I am told this will fix it. |

While taking the NRA Law Enforcement Handgun/Shotgun Instructor Course, I had a few FTEs with birdshot loads. One of the instructors told me to take the barrel to a gusmith and have the ports opened up. It wasn't much, a few thousandths but it worked. Didn't have a problem with it afterward, even with birdshot or those 8 pellet tac loads. Lost it during Hurricane Katrina.
