So my current rig is an LMT Estonia with an ACOG/RMR and I have been training at 100 yards for the past month, but I have been wanting to make some improvements overall and a lot of the suggested training I want to do takes place at 5-7-15 yards. I realize I can use my RMR for that, but I was curious if anyone has used their ACOG at such close ranges effectively? Looking for input, TIA.

I've used an ACOG, mini ACOG, or recently a PA 3x for years in CQB training. Two eyes open is your friend... Attached File |

We used to tip the killflash forward so you couldn't see through it. Shoot with both eyes open and it acts similar to a red dot. One eye sees the Chevron, one eye sees the target. You wont be winning any target shoots with that setup, but it will put rounds into a torso at indoor distances. Eta: don't forget to aim 2-4" high |

Friend of mine has run a TA31 for years (Atleast 7 years I’ve trained with the guy) and he is damn good with it at all ranges. Uses it indoors and stuff too, shoot houses etc. 0-50 yrs targets of all sizes. From all kinds of fucked up positions . Bindon aiming concept works but it takes a lot get as proficient with it across the course as say slapping an Eotech on and going to town. If you are right handed expect your impacts to be low left quite a bit. |
I don't have the ACOG any longer but in a class the instructor said to practice turning the rifle 45 degrees and use the top screw on the ACOG for a sight . The model I had didn't have the sights or red dot on top . It worked well that day well past 25 yards to get faster shots on target .

I've done alot of training with a 16" gun w/ a PA 2.5x ACSS and I have no problems at all using it at such short distances, in any light or conditions, if that helps. The key as with many things is training. Do it dry, do it live, do it alot, get accustomed to it. |

Easier with a 3X IME. You'll want to know the up close differences to compensate. |

One thing I haven't seen addressed in this thread is eye dominance. The Bindon Aiming Concept ONLY works for dominant eye shooting. Just like a red dot, or even both eye open irons, you have to shoot with the dominant eye on the optic or else it starts getting visually weird. As a cross-dominant eye shooter, I simply have to shoot left handed to make this work. If the concept isn't working, the person should test for eye dominance. There shouldn't really be a problem beyond familiarity if looking through the optic with the dominant eye. |
