1.4-1.7 is about where I'm at with some outliers (both good and bad). I find I'm no slower or faster coming out of a Safariland ALS compared to a passive retention holster.
This would be for a very close shot where I dont need to get a perfect sight picture, let's call it within seven yds. ETA that's just what I'm capable of, it's not to say it's "good" necessarily. |
| I want to say the last couple of competitions I've been to, where retention/duty holsters are the expected, there were a couple of stages where you were penalized if you're first shot didn't break by 1.5 seconds. The added time was equal to your first shot. So if it took you 1.6 seconds, you had 1.6 seconds added to your final score. |

| Back when I was doing qualifications every year, I was able to draw from a Safariland Level 3 holster, get a flash sight picture, and put two shots center mass at 3 yards in less than 2 seconds with a Glock 22. |

Since this thread was resurrected, I will add my two cents. My average is 1.9 secs with A-zone hits using a Glock 19 from a Safariland ALS. I know that sucks and I am working to improve. The good news is that I am better than I used to be.

Sounds like NRA “TPC.” It’s like 3 gun using duty guns and gear. They do a lot of 1st shot par time stages. The penalties are also 2 and 4 seconds for B/C hits, with 2 10 second misses and a 40 second FTE for a skipped target. You can’t outrun C hits and a FTE will ruin a whole day. |

I'm very happy with a 1.2-1.3 from concealment. Buzzer to hit; appendix. Anything under 1.5 feels fast. No real retention, but clearing the garment is a roughly equal handicap imo. I've seen an officer pull off a .61 go signal to hit one handed out of that bucket on his side (he eats his Wheaties)...if I could get below 1.0 from concealment...that would be the dream.
