Yep, the Yugoslavians helped the Iraqis build their AK factory, so the Iraqi AK's are basically Yugoslavian. I've never seen a Tabuk kit here in the USA. It must have been in the PLO capture kits that recently came in from Israel. |

As far as the rivet pattern on the Yugos, every picture of a Yugo stamped rfile I've seen in Ezell's or the Tokoi book has them pictured with RPK style trunnions, although the recent group buy on M92 carbine/smg kits shows them with an AKM style trunnion. My Yugo, and every Yugo I've seen here in the states or pictures of in Canada has the RPK style. If you find some with the AKM style, I'd be really interested in seeing them and getting any info/provenence available on them. That Type 1 will make a hell of a head-turner when it's built up. I'd suggest letting Ted Marshall build it up when you're ready, he is the master of authentic AK builds. |

Can you give us some details about your dealings with Chris? His website has not been updated in over a year - I guess he just builds AK's all day. |
| I know this question wasn't for me, but I just wanted to give some input. Chris at ak-usa is an excellent guy to deal with. Late last year I had him build me an ak-105 clone and it turned out just excellent. I like his work so much that I am going to be having him build me an AMD-65 in a couple of months. |
I was refered to Chris and AK-USA by Templar because I had a romanian MkII that I wanted to convert to AK74 and I was looking for a good gunsmith. I saw his website and it had just been updated so I was very impressed with what I saw. I contacted Chris and told him what I wanted and other things I was interested in. He was very helpful and helped me focus on what was possible and realistic since I was all over the place . We decided on the work that was going to be done and I sent him my rifle and parts. It took a while, but the work was done and my rifle was set to me. To say i was impressed is an understatement. I had always wanted anAK74 but never thought I would actually own one; a picture of this rifle can be seen in this forum. Chris did a masterful job in fitting the parts and the finish is absolutely gorgeous. The enamel is finish on my rifle looks great and I was told by Chris that is way more durable than the Russian finish. It took a while for me to go shoot this rifle but I finally did and it shoots flawlesly. I have not had a chance t sit down and dow a full accuracy test, but for me it is just great having an AK74. From my informal shooting it is very accurate for an AK. After this rifle was built I have been hoarding parts for my next projects. I got a Russian side-folding stock and also a Saiga rifle in 7.62x39 so I called Chris and asked him to build me an AK-103. He said ship it over and in about 5 weeks it was done. I am very pleased with the quality of Chris' work and his professionalism. he is a thorough builder with great talent and knowledge, and i will trust any rifle built by him with my life. Chris is quite busy now and there will likely be a wait time as with most other builders right now but I can assure you there are not many better than him. Custom built AKs are not cheap and his are not exceptions, however, you get what you pay for and once you have one of AK-USA's rifles you will not want anything less. I have about 9 more projects to be built and most of them are already assigned to Chris. What else can say? |
My newest WSAR-10 before changing funiture: Below, I will later place a pic after changing the wood forward to composite "saw grip" as well as the standard pistol grip to a "saw grip". Now I just need the AK version of the T6 (witch is a look-alike or the AR stock).  After adding "pin-on" brake, and changing furniture, just need stock and a few accesories. I have also polished the charging handle/bolt carrier now also, it is really looking nice except for the darn stock.

My first build. It is an I.O. Romanian kit with Polish wood. The receiver is made from a Tapco flat and the rifle is finished in Gunkote. Barks like a 12ga, light shove for recoil like any AK, big fire ball, hit what I aim at, snaps necks at the range.  Cost about $1000- to have it built

OK.. This is my work in progress. Pictures were taken before fake can was installed. It is a 223 Sagia. Receiver, front trunion, and barrel are the ONLY things that are Saiga. The gun was modified to accept UNMODIFIED 5.56 Bulgy and Polish mags   <<Removed naked lady pic. -MrsG>>  To show that it takes REAL mags, here is a picture of a POLISH 5.56 mag in it.  |

I'm never much cared for the furniture used by the East Germans but it is unique looking. Using the correct brake, mags, and pouch make for a good looking setup! |

Carb, thanks ....I find that doing a EG clone fills a unique part of our cold war history, and the stocks grow on you after a while and work quite well. it does have the real EG 74 muzzle break, and night sights.
