Hey all,
It's my first time posting in the SKS forum, and I'm relatively new to the platform, so please forgive my ignorance!
I picked up one of those beater gunsmith specials Royal Tiger Imports was selling late last year. When I got the rifle, it seemed to be in decent shape with the exception of a stock that seems to have been used as both a carving post and a well abused baseball bat.
I had some issues taking the rifle apart - that thing was FULL of cosmoline - but the SKS is in working order now. I've shot it several times, with no issues.
However, I never did disassemble the bolt. The pin (retaining pin, not the firing pin!) is really stuck in there. To get it as clean as possible, I soaked it in mineral spirits, boiling water, CLP, etc. Several times before shooting it.
I still feel bad about never cleaning out the firing pin channel, and I have a nagging worry about slamfires for that reason. Is there someone around that will disassemble a SKS bolt, clean out the firing channel, and install a firing pin spring for a reasonable price? From my Googling I've seen references to a couple guys that do it, but those links were all several years old and I'd like to check for an up-to-date website\person who can confirm that that service is still available.
Any leads, price quotes, etc. Would be really appreciated! I'll try to put a photo of the rifle up so y'all can admire its (I think early SinoSoviet) glory.
