EVERY flat on the market that I know of is coming from either Joeken, Tapco Or Nodakspud. They are all nice and any should work fine. Joeken has been back ordered on all their flats from what I know which is why a lot of their resalers are sold out or dont have them listed. They are made from 1050 steel compared to the rest that are 4130. Tapco is also sold out of their flats without trunnions holes but I was told they had plenty of ones with trunnion holes in stock. I think all the flats seem about equal. It seems like competition has forced the prices down & the quality up. I have had flats from all three suppliers and would consider nodakspud number 1 and then Tapco and Joeken following VERY closely behind. I am very low on flats at this time but will have more in soon. www.MidwestArmory.com |
| You didn't say if you wanted a flat or a prebent. My take is is that it's better to use a flat if you can. The only time I use a bent blank is on RPK builds. Since the RPKs don't need the dimples and such, it still makes for a correct shell. The only thing they need is to have the magwell depression stamped and I have a press die to do those. For a "normal" AK build, use a flat and find someone with a jig for you to bend it. |
