So I just got a gp1975 and want to get rid of the crappy taco furniture.  Want to go with better quality polymer. Was looking at surplus polymer but wasn't sure if I need to stick with American made furniture to make it 922r compliant. Also is the surplus polymer quality stuff or should I just go with arsenal furniture?

Just replace the furniture with whatever you want , use a US made mag for compliance

In my option, as long as you aren't expecting the ATF to have a reason to tear apart your rifle you should be good.

I don't know for your specific rifle but what I do with my AKs is:
US made:
muzzle device
pistol grip
trigger
hammer
disconnector
gas piston

Then you can put any furniture you want on it, and use any mags without worry.

Do you mean military arsenal, or Arsenal Inc/K-Var (Which is US made)?  K-Var is identical in quality compared to Russian/Bulgarian furniture. Good stuff.

Here's the answer right here. 1 US mag equals 3 US parts. GARY

What I've been doing of late has been installing euro furniture along  with a US FCG (3), a US grip, usually a Hogue, and a US made floor plate or follower to get me to 5 wo a muzzle accessory.

You are already compliant.  In addition to the crappy stock set, your GP75 should already has the following US made parts: Receiver, barrel, hammer, trigger, disconnector and slant brake.  That's already 6 so you can run any stock set or magazine you want.

Until you remove the magazine

Removing the magazine has no effect. Parts that aren't in the rifle have no bearing. 922r is about the number of foreign parts being less than ten. The number of foreign parts does not increase when the mag is removed.

1000% correct. Sadly many people don't understand this concept.  GARY

This.

So read folks: With a mag in rifle, your parts count is 16, so you need 6 US parts. If a mag is not inserted in your rifle, it's parts count is 13, so you need 3 US parts.

Hanguards, pistol grip, buttstock, and trigger group (hammer, disconnector, trigger= 3parts) and you have  6 US parts and 10 foreign parts, this makes you legal and you can use whatever mags you like, it's really that easy.

His rifle already has a US made barrel and receiver.  Only need 4 more.  Fire control group and slant brake.  Should already have these on it any way.
