Has anyone had any experiance using one of these, ACE's new "pro AK builders internal reciever block"? Specificly, retrofitting one to an existing rifle, not building from the ground up. I noticed them while browsing ACE's webpage, but they don't have any information on them at all.

They look to be like a much nicer option than their standard AK stock adaptor, which sticks outside by adapting to the existing tang. I'm not even sure if the internal block is for milled or stamped recievers.

If anyone has one or has installed one, I would love to hear about it. Is it a home shop project or pro's only installation? I am considering purchasing one for fitting to an Arsenal SLR-105, if thats feasible.

I used one in conjuction with their AK folding stock kit.  The block did require some work to fit into my TAPCO flat receiver but nothing that the usual AK builder wouldn't do.

Just remember...when you "cut" the tang you pretty much committed to using the block.

So more or less one has to cut the tang portion off even with the back of the reciever?

What is it that retains the block inside the reciever? Just going by the photo on the ACE website, it looks to me like the block slides into the reciever in place of where the end of a conventional stock normally would. Then it appears there is a bolt that comes down through where the second screw for the stock normally would. Is that lone bolt what now retains the internal reciever block and hence the folding stock?

Or does the ACE block extend inwards far enough for that slot at the narrow end to somehow engage the T-nut for the handle and use that to lock it in as well?

Do you have to remove or rerivet anything, like the rear tang/trunnion?

The way the bolck is retained in the receiver is the forward tang screw is replaced by a countersunk flathead cap screw and then more forward by the pistol grip nut.  Quite rigid IMO.

I have no complaints about how the system works.

You don't have to remove anything.  But in order to have a flat surface to bolt your stock to you have to remove the back portion of the tang.  I used J-B Weld to fill in the gaps above the mounting block just to make it look smooth and even.

I think they look good on a non rare rifle. I saw a pre ban Yugo .308 on the EE with one and it made me sad.

Is this the same ACE as I have seen put down on so many AK boards for their poor business practices?  I don't know if it is, so I'm curious...

No no. Thats Ace Arms, I think they are out of business or getting there. This is ACE riflestocks we're talking about here, they're the ones making those skeleton stocks for ARs and what not that everyone and their grandmother are sporting now.

I think I've got a pretty good idea how to install one of these blocks now. I guess its just up to me to decide if my rifle 'needs' it or not. Its just an Arsenal SLR-105. According to the Arsenal website it was "limited production" and now discontinued.. All it is though is a post-ban stamped lower receiver AK in 5.45 soviet. I guess it depends on whether neutered, bayonet-lugless-flash-suppressor-deprived rifles from the era of the AWB will ever be worth something as curiosities ;)
