Howdy all -

This weekend my local gun monger made me a deal on an AES I couldn't say no to.   But I have a few questions and I'm hoping folks on this forum can help.  I checked the FAQ but didn't see the questions I have.   Thanks in advance.

- Can a normal wood stock be put in place of the short RPK style stock?  The reciever looks like every other WASR conversion I've ever seen.  Any suggestions?  The foregrip wood pieces are actually pretty nice, I'd like to get something to match and then refinish them.  (The closest I've seen wood wise is a Yugo stock... would that fit the rear trunion?)  If nothing else, I wouldn't mind getting a full set of RPK furniture from another country.

- What reciever could this be rebuilt with?  Can I pickup one of the RPK recievers from NODAK and have it rebuilt if I decide I can't live with the mag wobble?

- As these look like 'import' then convert guns, are there any rules about foreign parts content?  Do I have to worry if I start adding US or other foreign parts?

- Do RPKs have a muzzle break?  Mine just has a threaded cover with what looks like a target crown.  Would a slant break be more accurate?

Much obliged,

AzDak

Ah, one more if there are no objections!

- There looks to be some sort of optics mount on the left side of the reciever.  What's it for?

I'm pretty sure any AKM furniture would fit.

No, the AES-10 isn't actually an RPK, it's a WASR with a long barrel and a bipod. You would use a regular AKM receiver if you wanted it rebuilt.

- As these look like 'import' then convert guns, are there any rules about foreign parts content?  Do I have to worry if I start adding US or other foreign parts?

I'm sure they are "import then convert" guns. I don't know what parts are US and what parts are not, but 922r still applies.

No muzzle device will make it more accurate. I've seen RPKs with bolt the muzzle nut as you describe and with short flash hiders.

Much obliged,

AzDak

Yep, it's a optics rail. And optic that will fit the "AK type" side rail will fit.

Kalinka has a good selection

Thank you for the replies, they are extremely helpful.

Would a slant break be more accurate?

Sorry, that wasn't very clear on my part.  By accurate I meant "Most like a real RPK".

But the more I think about it, the more I see this just being a long barreled WASR and will leave it as such.  I think getting a real RPK kit is the next step.

Thanks again,

AzDak

No, a real RPK was a bipod gun so it didn't need the slant cut brake which was used on AKs for firing from shoulder in full auto.

But all the footage Ive seen on TV (and in real life in Iraq) show them standing spraying from the hip, aint that the correct way to fire it???
Aint that why they are called the 7.62 Bullet hose??
I have seen em with both slant breaks and muzzle nuts, and some other kind of muzzle break

wouldn't it make sense to have some sort of brake on a bipod gun in the event you have to fire it from the shoulder?  seems to me the squad level machine guns we use have bird cage type breaks on them

The bird cage flash hider is called the bird cage flash hider because it's a flash hider!

Just messin' with you.
